Our love interests and their ability to help out on the farm...
Eiland oh the sweetheart. He doesn't know the full ins and outs but he will absolutely try to research! I feel like his calling will more so be with gardening! After all, he digs in the dirt as his favorite pastime! He uh might get a little too enthused about digging more plots for farming. There might be a few more holes than anticipated. He just had to check to make sure there weren't any archeological finds nearby!
Celine will be head of the gardening, especially when it comes to the flower planting! She's not as familiar with animal handling and might be a bit nervous, she just doesn't want to upset the animals! She'll come around to it just fine with time. They'll love her!
Hayden we already know lol Like a chicken to dropped seed! I wonder if Henrietta will also move in with us. In that case, she might puff her feathers to be the top dog chicken in the coop. She's getting her own corner of the bedroom however!
Speaking of dogs... Dozy and Juniper. Juni is going to have the dirty work of the farm automated with essence so she doesn't have to! She'll be studying various magical properties to make the farm life easier. Dozy might find his second calling as a herding dog. He's going to be the busiest pup in Mistria! Between running the bathhouse, helping on the farm, and being the cutiest cutie pie đ, oh and at some point... baby sitter...? Dozy will have his paws full!
Valen might be more into the animal caretaking aspect. She wouldn't turn up her nose to figuring out any ailments the animals end up catching. It'll be right up her alley!
Caldarus has ancient knowledge of farming from eras ago. Perhaps there's techniques that have been long forgotten but are super useful! He'll take gardening with great revere! The animals however might side eye him at first. How can a human have such sharp claws? AND horns?? AND A TAIL???
March is going to have those animals running around him. They will test his limits with their antics, and you will be watching stifling your laughter. It's lucky he's cute! đ
Balor as a trader, he will be on the lookout for special seeds to bring back for you! He might help out on the farm buuuut he might just enable the help of the Dragonguard. Afterall they (help?) hangout with Hayden while he's tending to his fields, they might've picked up a thing or two! He'll help when asked of course! Just might be less inclined to on his own merit.
Adeline will have every square inch of the farm organized. From where the best spots are suitable for farming, to the land space needed for the barns and pens, to the little picnic areas and decor! Honestly, it's a godsend! No more shuffling items around when you realize it's off center and have to scoot it over more....and then some more...đľâđŤ
Ryis will be making sure the barns, coops, fences, and anything else part of his craft is in tip top shape 24/7. He'll be building covers to give the animals shade, elaborate ramp set ups for the smaller animals to climb around on, and let's not forget about the bird houses! He'll want a small forest on the property to give the birds a little sanctuary. Of course, the picnic area will be near that as well so he can enjoy the birds singing while eating in the shade.
Reina Oh she'll be up for the extensive gardening to have so many variations of vegetables and herbs at her disposal! Fresh right from the garden into the cooking pot! She'll be in her element so much that you'll need to share her various dishes with the other villagers.

Summary: General headcanons as to how the bachelors display romance!
Warning(s): Nothing explicit! Maybe a tiny bit of some suggestiveness here and there, but nothing to write home about!
Side Note(s): Apologies for this taking a while to come out, y'all! A few things are happening irl at the moment, so it's taking my focus away from writing for a bit! I'll try to get back into the swing of things soon!
Balor
Very big on expressing his feelings through his words.
Sure, Balor's not too shabby either when it comes to the realm of giving you gifts and being physically affectionate. But he prefers to be generally romantic with you through what he says and means it. If he says he loves you, then he'll usually follow up his words with a flower, maybe a gift that you've been eyeing, or a rare gem that you've only mentioned once.
With him, I feel that Balor would want you to feel as if you're constantly being swooped up into the arms of a prince or a very handsome thief trying to steal away your heart.
As I mentioned before, flowers and rare gems (as well as gifts you've mentioned wanting beforehand) are his go-to, but he'll always make sure to give you the gift with care.
A date night under the stars, maybe after he recently came back from one of her merchant travels.
The whole nine yards!
Eiland
Almost similar to Balor, I can imagine that Eiland likes to show and display romance through gifts, but also does so through spending time with you.
No matter where you may be in town, Eiland is going to find a way to locate you and offer to spend time with you!
Personal duties and matters be damned, if you ask him to be more romantic with you, then he's going to do it! And it helps that he likes being by your side as well! If you're planting crops on your farm, he's right there talking with you and even trying to help out from time to time.
If you're traveling to the Mines, then he's traveling right by your side, maybe he won't go into the actual Mines himself, butâ he was at least there to support you through his words and presence! As well as encouraging you to get back to him safely, otherwise he'd be saddened by you being injured or something worse!
In the case of date nights? While it'd be easy to say that he'd take you on an expensive date (and don't get me wrong, he would do it occasionally). I feel like at-home dates or quiet dates in a comfortable place in the woods are more his style.
He feels like he can be himself the most when it's just the two of you, and in those cases, it's when Eiland is capable of really showing just how much he likes to be at your side.
Ryis
Also, another candidate for showing romance through "spending time with his partner."
However, I can see Ryis being the type to really like quiet birdwatching dates. Underneath a tree, and anytime there is a bit of talking between the two of you, it's usually Ryis expressing his appreciation for you, for you enjoying his hobbies, as well as making sure to tell you that he wants to know your interests as well!
He doesn't want to be the only one in th erelationship whose doing things that he likes; he wants to do things that you like as well!
Even if it's something considered "tedious". So long as it involves being with you, then Ryis doesn't really care about what you both do.
In the case of doing something other than quiet birdwatching, howeverâ I can also see Ryis being the type of person who's somewhat big on expressing himself through physical affection as well?
Nothing explicit, but mostly Ryis either hugging you close to him or kissing you until he's sure that he's going to run out of breath. Either way, though, Ryis is a heavy "let's spend time with one another" type of romancer.
March
Okay, sue me butâ I don't see March as an extremely romantic type? Admittedly, I can see him more as the type of person whose just happy to be breathing the same air as you.
When it comes to romance, I imagine that he's not the type to plan elaborate dates, and while he adores spending time with you, he also likes to still spend time honing his craft as a blacksmith!
However, he's definitely the kind of person whose extremely dependable.
If you say that you need something at a specific time on a specific date, then he's there, waiting with the item in hand.
If you're going through a rough time, be it something light such as a bittersweet ending in one of your favorite shows or a sudden death in the family, then he's right by your side, a shoulder to cry on and comforting words waiting for you hand and foot.
Of course, he'll say that he loves you, he'll cook you meals when you need them, and read books with you on the couch, but outside of that? Fancy dates (unless it's a special occasion and you really want to do that type of thing with him) are rarely seen.
But although he's not the most romantic type of person, you're not going to doubt for a single second that he loves you.
Caldarus
Probably the most romantic person on this list ngl
He's spent thousands of years trapped inside a statue. Every waking moment he spends at your side is a gift, and he's going to make sure that you know it, and most importantly? That you can feel it through the way he speaks to you, compliments and admires your appearance as well as your personality.
He'll clean and spend time with you in any way, shape, or form. Be it early morning, evening, or night!
Caldarus does the work of researching the best dating spots around town, thinking up different meals to make for the special occasion (headcanoning that he treats every date like it's the firstâ every single one is special to him â¨) as well as just generally taking the lead when it comes to the more romantic aspects of the relationship.
Of course, he appreciates it when he receives the same in return, but I feel like he likes to display his affection more often. You're the one whose responsible for him being freed from the statue, the one who gave him an entirely new life, as well as his first friend and relationship in the current age.
And on a more headcanon-y end note, I also imagine that he's had plenty of relationships throughout his long life, so he likes to use old customs to really spice up the relationship when it comes to romance, dates, etc.

Summary: Taliferro is waiting for the delicious meal you promised you could make him, but he doubts you can do it. After all, what does Mistria have to offer that he canât accomplish in the Capitol?
Content & Warnings: Taliferroâs pride, potentially ooc, reader sometimes acts effeminate, I have misunderstood what a hot pot is and itâs a stew in this fic, lots of alliteration and fancy words, unreliable/biased narrator, Taliferroâs pov, catching feelings?
Taliferro tapped the toe of his fine leather shoe on the floor of the Sleeping Dragon Inn.
He had always considered himself a patient man. His status demanded it in the Capitol, but he also personally held himself to the highest standard. Once, he slaved for seven hours without pause to complete a catering commitment for a duke and duchess. After the event, the very influential couple lauded his ability to acquiesce their appetites, and rightfully so. To put it simply: Taliferro was a master at his craft. The best. He ruled Aldariaâs hierarchy of chefs. His skills were second to none.
So what was taking you so long to cook the meal you promised him?
He truthfully wasnât even looking forward to it. Hadnât even wanted it. He fully doubted it would be any good. However, if every man had a weakness, Taliferroâs would be his inability to decline a challenge. It wasnât born of pride. He was beyond such things. He only wanted to reestablish facts he knew to be true. When someone made the ludicrous claim that Mistria could âcreate a dish thatâll make your tongue fall offâ, he wasnât one to turn tail and run. There was a reason he elected to present cooking challenges for his market stall, after all.
In fact, it was at his very stall that youâd behaved so audaciously. The young Miss Reina had turned in her attempt at this weekâs cooking challenge, and after he declared it decent enough (and bland due to Mistriaâs resources), you interrupted the exchange to refute him and said the town had an abundance of remarkable resources. Emboldened, he asked how you would prove it. You then made the claim about his tongue falling off.
In the heat of the moment, after he decided you would cook for him, you tried to insist on Reina being the one for the job, but he wouldnât let you shirk the responsibility. There was no place for cowardice in the kitchen. And so, here you both were now. The inn was quiet and empty in the afternoon with everyone still at the market. Miss Reina allowed you use of the kitchen and anything you might need, so Taliferro waited at the bar with crossed ankles and perfect posture.
He already held some mildly indignant feelings about the whole interaction âincluding his belief in your abilitiesâ but what he could not, absolutely never forgive, was your work method. In the near hour he had sat there, you treated this like a joke. While traveling to and from the endless counters and cabinets, you flounced around without a care. A tune was forever humming between your lips like a peppy bird. While he sat and steadily concluded this was a waste of time, you swayed back and forth as you sprinkled your spices and stirred your bowls and chopped your ingredients. Even the apron you selected matched your flowery behavior. Truly, you acted like this was some insignificant matter, even though it was a gravely important matter, and all the while: Taliferro was growing hungry.
Just before he had the gall to ask how much longer you would be, you surprised him. Spinning once in a grand flourish, you placed a porcelain bowl down. A silver spoon and embroidered napkin framed the sides. Grinning like you had found the fountain of eternal youth, you slid off your oven mitts and leaned on the counter to watch whatever may unfold.
Taliferro stared at the stew. It looked⌠ordinary. Chunks floated in a red broth (tomato-based, no doubt) and an average amount of seasoning speckled the steaming surface. He frowned. The spoon slipped into it and half-heartedly stirred around. When he leaned over to get a whiff, there was no scent to be detected. You continued to watch, and just as he found himself thinking about how he was disappointed once again, the spoon finally touched his lips.
The taste exploded on his tongue in a million bursts of spices. It coated his mouth, shot down his throat, and filled his stomach with a searing warmth. The stew was wildfire. Flavors he could not name swirled inside his head. Under a spell and sipping the spoon, he dipped it back in to chase more. Then, he paused. He looked up and saw you.
You were still staring with that unchanged expression.
Swallowing, Taliferro switched focus. He adjusted his scarf. He reapplied the professional composure that came like a second face. However, the intense heat still left an unfavorable flush.
âItââ He tried to find the words. âItâs good.â
Instead of a boastful pride at proving him wrong, you took the compliment at ten-times itâs worth.
âThank you! Itâs a Mistrian specialty. We call it a âhot potâ.â As you spoke eagerly, you leaned in closer.
Taliferroâs brow furrowed in disbelief. âThis cannot be a hot pot. The flavours are all wrong.â
You smiled like you knew something he didnât. For once, the idea didnât bother him, and he couldnât fathom why. âThatâs because itâs made with all-Mistrian ingredients. They come from deep within the mines.â
Pondering your words (and how they proved you correct in a multitude of manners) Taliferro tasted the stew again. He did his best to restrain elation, but his blush restored itself at the slightest sip. Eating more allowed him to understand the meal better, so he put his analytical skills to the test. Above all else, it was extremely spicy. There was also a tang that surprised him. Several ingredients floated around and waited to be picked apart and dissected for flavor, but that wasnât all. Underneath everything was a slight earthiness that grounded the stew and prevented it from being flame-incarnate. It was masterful. It was unlike the rich, extravagant dishes from home.
It was delicious.
âItâs good,â he said again. Anything less would be a disservice. Anything more would bruise his sense of self.
You flashed your teeth in a way that would be seen as unprofessional in a competition. âJust good?â you pressed, as if wanting something more. Perhaps it was praise? He was used to amateur chefs seeking such things from him; especially when it was unearned. With you however, he would make an exception.
âIt is positively palatable.â He relented, eyebrow twitching, denying to himself the burn in his chest that was no doubt caused by the stew and not the way your eyes lit up like grains of sugar. âWhere did you learn to cook?â A switch of topic might calm whatever strange condition was flashing through his heart. When he returned home, he would research remedies. Or inquire the family doctor.
You glided away with a shrug and began to clean up the mess you made. Taliferro distractedly ate more as you set knives into the sink with gentle hands. âIâm self-taught,â came the shocking truth. âI didnât really cook much before I moved here, but the time I spent on the skill really helped me improve.â
With a frown, Taliferro felt that familiar sensation of indignation return. How could that be? How could you craft the most delicious stew to ever exist without professional training? It was offensive to everything he stood for.
Without a word, he drowned his feelings in the substance of more annoyingly perfect delicious stew. It quickly washed them away. He couldnât stay mad when his tongue could taste this. You were right: it was practically falling off. If that happened to be an actual side effect, he couldnât even complain.
âI harvest most ingredients myself, you know,â you spoke up while being elbow deep in suds. Partway through your sentence, Taliferro thought he smelled something new in the air.
âYou collected these ingredients from the mines?â He was so absorbed with what was in front of him that the question of the stewâs ingredients had completely escaped him. Under normal circumstances, it was the first thing he interrogated. âisnât it dangerous in there?â The notion was beyond him, and rather appalling. He was never one to collect ingredients where money could buy; especially if it meant keeping clean. That was what peasants were for.
A chuckle travelled in his direction. It was warm like freshly baked bread. âVery.â You tugged up a sleeve without looking behind you and flashed a scar he could see even from the distance. âGot this last year. Monsters that spit rocks are no joke.â
Instead of having you elaborate (and pondering other implications that came with your claims) he returned to his previous thought. âAnd what is in the hot pot?â
Shifting your weight, you casually counted off the ingredients. âHot potatoes, some flame peppers, one ash mushroom, a handful of lava chestnuts⌠oh! And some earth shrooms.â
The way you spouted off rare materials like they were nothing astounded him. He had tried to cook with flame pepper once, and it ended up burning down his kitchen. The ash mushrooms he imported werenât even edible, and the other three âdespite sounding edibleâ didnât tick off any compendiums he had memorized. To combine all that and create this was enough to leave him humbled and mildly attractedâ if he could indeed be attracted to someone as unprofessional as yourself.
When the dishes were clean, you ignored his flustered state and went to give the oven attention. Recognizing how foolish he was, Taliferro finished his stew. If he drank the broth fast enough, it might wash away the blush staining his face. A hopeless desire. Like everything else today, he was spiraling out of control. Remnants of red liquid traced the bowl, so he distracted himself with the way it spun inside the turning porcelain in a simmering silt.
That smell he noticed earlier continued to strengthen; curling beneath his nose and whispering of something sweet. Just before his mind could spark in recognition, a second dish was placed on the counter. With a thin, golden crust, and enticing steam that promised rich softness, a golden cheesecake of the utmost quality presented itself to him.
âI thought you might like something more close to home,â you said quietly, privileged to see every shifting muscle of his face and every expression laid bare. It was as if you knew him personally, inside and out, and there was nothing he could do to change that.
Feeling something within him turning soft, Taliferro picked up his silver fork and knife to cut out a slice. He went slow to savor it all; how the knife sunk into the cake, how more steam puffed out of the incision, how the wedge shook from shaky hands. This was something to cherish. Delicately, he took a bite. A rich moisture coated his tongue, started melting there, and left a satisfying sweetness. His cheeks turned pink in delight. Unlike the unfamiliar hot pot, he knew this all too well.
And just like the hot pot, it was the best heâd ever tasted. He didnât get offended this time.
âHowâ How did you acquire such fine ingredients?â There was no hiding his surprise. He assumed they were the cause, since there was only one explanation for the utter deliciousness. Heâd made golden cheesecake before, and it never tasted like this.
You âin all your post-baking messâ leaned onto the counter to answer his question. âI made them myself.â
He didnât miss the manner of your smile when his eyes widened. It shouldnât have been a surprise, really. You said so yourself that you collected most of your ingredients. This wasnât any different.
âI grew the wheat and sugarcane and ground them with our mill. The eggs, milk, butter and cheese all came from my trusty chickens and cows. Beautiful animals they are; wouldnât you agree?â
Taliferro regretted having to shake his head. âToo messy. Iâd take my kitchen over a sty.â Just the thought of being in one had him shuddering.
Still inexplicably saccharine, you drew your fingers up to his buttoned lapel and sent a surge of panic through him. âIâd think twice before saying that,â you said as you picked off a piece of food and wiped it on a rag. ââif you canât even keep yourself clean.â
Taliferro blushed again. You werenât even trying to embarrass him, but it happened naturally anyways. It was even harder not to react when you took his fork from his hand to try the cheesecake for yourself.
âMm,â you hummed. He watched helplessly as you stole another bite. The golden cake disappeared between your lips. âJust like last batch.â
He hated to think your cooking was always this consistent. It was unimaginable that you managed to create not one, but two dishes that surpassed anything he had made in his entire career. It was outlandish. It was insulting. It challenged everything he thought he knew about cooking, Mistria, and you.
And he wanted more. If he had to leave this town forever and never come back, he knew that nothing in the Capitol would be able to replace the food you made for him today.
Oblivious to his turmoil, you perked up (seeming to realize what youâd just done) and apologized for taking his fork.
âIt was only supposed to be for you to eat,â you babbled on. âI didnât mean to take some. Well, I guess I did⌠but Iâm sorry Iââ
Taliferro took the fork from your gesturing hand, and you stopped rambling. He gently wiped it on his napkin and went back to enjoying the cheesecake. Silence returned once again to the inn as he finished this wonderful gift. It was more peaceful this time. More pleasant. After dabbing his chin with the napkin, he rose to his feet to be on equal level with you. No longer were you an amateur beneath him. He learned that the hard way.
âThank you for the meal.â He flared his fingers against his chest with a bow. Hesitantly wetting his lips, he added âit was some of the most delectable food I have ever had the pleasure of eating.â
Your modesty was unparalleled, even compared to his. âIâm glad to hear that.â You were calm and collected in a way he positively envied. Still, he found your slight smile infectious. Taliferro never complimented chefs to this degree, but it seemed you of all people were unaffected most by it; which was exactly why you deserved it.
Before given it a second thought over, he found himself asking you something he never thought he would say.
âWill you cook for me next week?â
Immediately, he flushed. It was a bold request for him to make. Even more bold with his status and your contrasting dynamic. He wondered what he would say if you denied the ridiculous question. No doubt he would have to lick his wounds and conceal them with carefully constructed conversation. Honey and sugar were his best weapons.
âI would love to.â You clasped your hands down in front of you. âBut only on the condition that you provide Reina a chance to cook for you too.â
Taliferro couldnât believe his luck, and he was an extremely lucky guy (outside of his immense skills, obviously). Poising his pointed fingers to his temple, he put on his third face of confident composure. âOf course! Now that I know just how remarkable Mistriaâs resources are, I canât pass by the opportunity to try new dishes.â
Eyes closed in mirth, you expressed how happy you were to hear that. He didnât dare express how happy it made him to hear how happy it made you. One more secret to hold close to his chest.
âAnd maybeâŚâ You seemed to be the hesitant one now. âMaybe we can even cook something together.â
Closing one eye with a smile, Taliferro made sure every word out of his mouth reassured any insecurity you might have. âOf course. Iâve always wanted a sous chef.â
Now, after all this time in the kitchen, it was finally time for you to become flustered at his hand. He relished in it, much in the way he relished seeing othersâ eyes go alight at the first taste of his food. In his many years of cooking, it was a sight that never ceased to thrill him. It gave him meaning. It gave him purpose. And here, perhaps, he could find a new one to elevate his life to even greater heights.
You gave him another smile. It was like a recipe he wanted to study for days without end.
