Y’all are confusing the words cringe, awkward and embarrassing. The scene ain’t cringe or embarrassing. It’s awkward, as it should be.

We see a person who leads a very private life, who has a very hard time opening up and is generally an awkward communicator outside of her job serenading a person she loves cares about.

Said person is very hurt by her, seems mad about it, but as the song goes on (we haven’t even seen the whole scene from what I got), yet her face still changes a little as the song goes on. She’s open to possibilities.

The fact Tennant is the first one who we will hear calling Whistler ‘Kate’ hurts, but it makes me think that maybe there is some background there. Like Jane was on CIA before joining the NCIS, what if at the same time Whistler already was an FBI agent before the DIA and they have known each other back then? What if Jane and Kate already worked together on a mission on a CIA/FBI case?

Do I need them to get back together as soon as possible? Yes.

Do I need there to be an angsty scene where Kate is in trouble or injured and a desperate Lucy finds her, cradles her close while Joy Oladokun's Breathe Again plays in the background, and begs her to be okay because she loves her? Obviously.
