so don't get too comfortable.

I've been speaking to Esraa, Qais' mother, trying to figure out what she can possibly say to gain attention for her son's needs. Many Gazans have asked me over the past two years, "what can I say?" And I always feel like the bad guy, having to admit that much of Tumblr only cares about what inconveniences them, or that they'll share a short sob story, or that they'll participate if they'll get something in return.

No one should have to put their suffering on blast to be worth support. I am constantly aggravated, like it's all pointless... But then I remember that for people like Esraa and Qais, they have no choice. This is an act of survival. And so I carry on.

I’m making this post on the behalf of my friends Sami and Hamza, and their family who are all continuing to suffer in Gaza. With Israel blocking aid and still bombing the strip, their situation remains dire — especially since they live in a tent, and the days and nights are growing colder as winter approaches.

The image you see is not from a war movie. It's a real X-ray of a Palestinian child. A sniper's bullet pierced her skull. This was not an accident. It was a calculated shot — to the head. How many children must bleed before the world opens its eyes?

I see this, and I tremble. Because I, too, am a mother. My own child is injured. He cries every night from pain. He needs urgent medical care — but we are trapped under siege, under fear, under silence.

How long before my son becomes another X-ray? Another hashtag? Another number?
