The Neon Demon (2016)

Pictured here are only a handful of some truly stunning moments in The Neon Demon, directed by Nicolas Winding Refn. This film received a lot of criticism for it’s superficial and lack of an ‘intelligent’ narrative. But if a film is this visually captivating.... I couldn’t give a fuck. I could tell while watching that the cinematographer was female. An amazing job, Natasha Braier.

Suspiria (2018)

Snippets of Suspiria, reimagined by Luca Guadagnino. I will be making more of an effort to share stills from films that I love. I was so inspired by Guadagnino’s contemporary eye, the film so impactful with some artfully grotesque moments. His choice of a rather dull colour palette to reflect the desperate times in Berlin was genius to me, being such a stark contrast to Argento’s saturated hues. As a photographer for some reason I feel more of a genuine response to an image that isn’t overly embellished or colourful; but has an undeniable mood to it whether it’s unsettling or otherwise.

I’ve read a couple of articles from sources (who honestly I couldn’t care less about,) that deem horror to be on a downward slope, which I find crazy after Aster’s Hereditary and now Suspiria, this is only proof to me that horror not only has a place but is prospering in 2018.

Even the Giallo purists who I can imagine may hate this film; only need to approach it as a simple nod to a classic rather than a remake.
