So my theory of why little Mo had this box and the pictures like this
As we all know this is in the future. When He Tian came back and Mo waited for him so long.
Now, all of the objects in the box are when they were young before He Tian left, as I showed in another post. We have the earrings, the jacket from the fight with She Li (the jacket which was actually He Tian’s), and also the picture. Mo kept all of those things as memories of him.
But as time passed He Tian was taking more and more time to come back. Mo kept going to his box of memories to just see his face and at some point the feeling of missing him became so strong that he decided to tape his face in the photos
But I don’t think he did it to try to forget him, because he would have scratched his face with markers or something. Instead he placed a tape, something he could easily remove and just place it again. When he found himself missing him he went to the box, take the tape out, see him for a while and place the tape back. I feel that it was a way to cope with the situation of being apart. Since we know Mo is the type to push his feelings aside and just keep going with his life.
In conclusion, Mo kept the box shut and the photos like that because he missed him but didn’t want to keep feeling bad about it.
