Yeah we’re nerds.

Last night turned out to be quite refreshing, a stark contrast to the grave mood that seems to have accompanied this visit. Silvermoon may not have changed…much…but there is no arguing that I have.

I met Ry in the Row last night as per our custom. The job here is nearly done and we will be moving on soon. She spoke of an offer in Stranglethorn. Seems her pathetically lovesick pirate is making yet -another- attempt at getting her in his bed. It’s actually quite sad to watch and I find myself happy I’m not compelled towards any one person in such a way that I would make as much a fool out of myself as he does. Oh well.

Rule Number 46 of Alistaire’s Code: You don’t have to like them. Gold is gold and it weighs a lot heavier than feelings.

We depart in a few days, and maybe that’s a good thing. I have tested my camouflage upon some old acquaintances and nobody has so much as batted an eyelash, but its entirely too easy to get comfortable here among our own kind for once. Goblins are fun for a while, but soon enough they’ve turned into little green piles of annoyance and explosives which makes them especially hard to be rid of. The company is nice, but the truth is I can’t afford it and I know that.

Last night was a risk, throwing myself into the open just to mess with Ry…but she had it coming. She did tell me to relax, after all, and what better way than to make some new friends? True, I probably shouldn’t have abandoned her there with Random Street Loiterer A with the pretty eyes who was clearly sweet on her, but what are friends for? The woman needs to get laid, anyway.

Ultimately, I’m glad I left her when I did. The shadows which are always with me seem stronger here. I can feel them, writhing around me like a thousand tiny snakes though I do not fear their presence any longer. I’ve come to think of them like armor, another weapon in my arsenal. Still, my suddenly acute awareness of them worries me.

Again did sleep elude me for a time though the tingle of Merialeth’s presence has become more of a quiet comfort than anything. It seems I had just closed my eyes when I was so rudely awakened by being thoroughly doused in my best rum. She drained it all, every single bottle wasted on the ground.

I guess Rythlin doesn’t like my friends.

She wouldn’t speak to me afterwards, and probably won’t for a few days. I’ll have to put my hands in a few pockets before we leave to make up for the liquor she destroyed.

The streets of Silvermoon haven’t changed much since I’ve been gone, though perhaps my method of traveling them has. I remember the Row vaguely from my time here…shadows know I was never one to spend much time there and never without a Thalryn guard nearby to sort out any problems that might arise. The street is notorious for trouble.

I never dreamed I’d be one of them; Row Rats, we called them. They loiter there, mostly garbed in mismatched leather and covered in various degrees of grime but I am no longer surprised by the odd places I find myself. It was invigorating, in a way. Being here is a true test of my capability to blend, and I’d say I’m doing quite well.

I did a quick sweep of the City before joining Ry upon that stoop, aided of course by the cover of shadow. I’m taking no chances with unwelcome meetings…especially in public. I will return to them one day, when I am ready…when I can explain.

Today is not that day.

We spent the night in the ruins, housed in one of Alistaire’s old hovels. I remembered him mentioning it, and I trust these cracked and broken walls to have less eyes and ears than the inns in the City. Ry was skeptical, at first, but I believe in the end she understood.

Sleep was not an easy thing to find. I didn’t toss and turn, like some, but rather seemed trapped in a constant state of awareness of my own thoughts. That familiar tingle is getting stronger, tickling the base of my neck with its persistent presence. It isn’t an annoyance so much as a reminder, provoking memories of how things once were.

I do not regret my decisions, though wish perhaps they had not come with such heavy costs. I greatly enjoy this life, this freedom. No longer am I plagued by that which has cursed our family, but have instead twisted it into some semblance of purpose.
