I don’t require them, but I definitely appreciate it when they’re included! Sometimes a pose prompt can be “looking relaxed and yet somehow smug”, or “is very bad at dancing but tries anyway”, or even “make him look like a huge jerkass”.  If nothing else, I’ll sometimes send the commissioner a couple different gesture drawings for them to select from - learning how to say what pose you want is a learned thing, and is certainly something I still struggle with (after spending almost ten years doing just that).  Unrelated advice: if you’re at a loss for what to send to a commissioner when they ask for picture reference, sometimes, a couple of “this isn’t my character but I like the vibe” photos are excellent
