This is a page for all things Rosegarden (aka Ruby/Oscar from RWBY)! I originally ran this account over on twitter, but I don't like that website anymore, so we're gonna try it here instead.
You'll find metas, fan art reblogs and other general posts about the ship. I'll also make my own analyses, starting with a series of posts with all the reasons why RG is most likely to be canon (or at least why we like to say it is).
I do my best to avoid discourse and will rarely if ever talk about rival ships on this platform, as such I'd appreciate if others do the same and don't bring those conversations here. RG antis will be blocked on sight!
That's all for now, happy shipping!

Both Ruby and Oscar are still so shaken up from believing they lost each other (Oscar believing Ruby was dead and Ruby being tricked by Neo into thinking she “killed” Oscar) it’s hard for them to process that they’re both still alive.
So they make a habit of constantly being able to feel each other’s breaths and heartbeats whenever they can, just to reassure each other that they’re alive and together
My god I never answered this one. I remember reading it like YES! EXACTLY! YOU'RE SO CORRECT! and I don't know why i couldn't have just said as much when I first saw this LOL
but better late than never!
I looooooove the idea of them being clingy after they reunite. As much as I'd love if it was just "wow so we both almost thought we'd lost the other forever, how about we ignore shame and just be as close as we can for however long we have left", I imagine it'll be their usually more subtle, quiet approach to such things.
Oscar, specifically, has been shown as touch averse. He flinches a lot at different people touching him, especially hugs. The One (1) time he was fully accepting of it was when Ruby almost ran to hug him in V8. So seeing them hover really close to each other, almost touching, or finding any excuse to do so is just soooo good. Especially cause anyone paying attention would probably see through it pretty quickly aha. Things like offering a hand to help Oscar up, or Oscar putting a hand on Ruby's lower back while he tries to steer her away from folks vying for her attention on the street. Any input that reminds them the other is There. For Real. So good.
Hi! I remember how you wrote that you'll do the sky is falling analysis because it has rg parallels, will you ever do it?
(I'm sorry if I mistaken you for other account bc I can't find this post now, but it'll be interesting to hear your opinion anyway!)
I don’t remember if I said I’d do one, but I do vaguely remember an ask about it that I don’t think I ever answered aha.
Sky is Falling is a song with… a lot of layers. So it’s difficult to do a comprehensive analysis that covers all of them. What makes it so complex is it’s one of three songs that all sort of play off of each other. The first is Touch the Sky, which is a direct parallel to this one. But both songs also have similarities to Trust Love. It also links to Treasure. I won’t be doing a full comparison between all of them, but I’ll try to get the main points across.
The primary narration of Sky is Falling is from Oz and Oscar as a shared perspective. We see it first with the use of the pronoun “we”, as well as the several symbols linking back to Salem – and by extension – Oz’s centuries-long feud with her. Lines like, “Can’t outrun the ruin of our lives” and, “a curse that’s never-ending,” are good examples.
The first stanza really reminds me of Oscar. How, back in V5 during the Dojo Scene.
He dreamt of a life of heroism, and a dream is something that isn’t real. It’s an imagined ideal; a fantasy. But his dream became reality and it’s more a nightmare than anything else.
Here comes another nightmare
Another fever dream
The horror just won’t stop
An endless scream
But this is not subconscious
We’re not imagining
We’re wide awake
This is reality
The song’s title itself references the fairy tale Henny Penny (aka Chicken Little) which is about a chick who believes the world is coming to an end when an acorn falls on its head. It’s typically used as "a hyperbolic reaction to perceived belief of imminent disaster", but I don’t think Oz and Oscar’s view here necessarily fit that theme.
Ozpin has said his magic is dwindling. Salem has been playing the long game. It’s clear to all parties that this final fight will likely be the last. Either the world will be saved, or it will be destroyed. Regardless, the cycle is ending. So their fears that this really is the final fight likely aren’t unfounded. In fact, the defeatism in these lyrics is part of that clear parallel to Touch the Sky, which is a song entirely about feeling as if “misery has been discarded” and a “new life has begun”. Despite the scene featuring Touch the Sky not including Oscar, the lyrics do allude to him with the line: “and I somehow feel I finally feel like me.” Specifically, to his dialogue in V8E2 where he says pretty much those words verbatim to Ozpin.
If these two songs are parallels, then Sky is Falling is feeling as though the world is falling apart after they all finally had gained some sense of security and hope. But it's not only about the threat of Salem... It's also predicting Oscar's grief over losing Ruby.
The main part of the song that argues this is the bridge. Lets break it into sections.
Lost all my hopes and dreams
Watch my life flash by in scenes
And it seems there’s no soul
On the video screen
Clearly more of that hopeless imagery, but specifically mentioning "no soul on the video screen" as a reason for why Oscar's is lost seems very deliberate. The person who's been on a screen diagetically with any sort of focus on hope... is Ruby. While there's a montage of several people around the world watching her broadcast, we know Oscar isn't one of them. Because, at the time, he's separated from her, imprisoned, and not at the luxury of pulling out his scroll.
One of the most persistent themes of this show is that only when everyone works together will they be able to drive away the darkness. And V8 is a season where their whole team is split in half, they've lost an ally in Ironwood, and the rest of the world either won't or can't come to their aid. This song highlights that the world will end if they don't all work together. Especially Oscar - Oz's last incarnation and Salem's longest adversary - with Ruby - the last (?) silver eyed warrior and potentially Salem's greatest weakness. This is a theme that comes up consistently in several songs. But here, with the full context of the bridge, it's clear Oscar's hope - his certainty - is tied to Ruby. And when he is separate from her, he feels lost both in the world and in his belief in himself. It is a highlight towards his attachment to Ruby and the monologue he has in the V9 epilogue. The song continues:
But I’m green tryin’ to figure out
What all of it means
Staring at the casket
Hoping to move past it
Knowing things will never be the same
And that’s it
Oh, you're green, are you? Are you Oscar Pine? I'm not gonna say it's not a little corny ahaha.
The lines "figuring out what all of it means" can be foreshadowing that epilogue where Oscar is trying tirelessly to find out what happened to Ruby and her team. They also mention how he stands at her grave and is unable to move past her death because he hasn't yet given up hope she's still alive.
Cold soaked as
I’m standin’ in rain
Feeling nothing but pain
Until I see you again
These last bits of the bridge mentioning cold and "feeling nothing but pain until I see you again" are another layer to that longing... or should I say, pining for his rose. This is part of how Sky is Falling links to Treasure, which is a song entirely about longing for a love they've been separated from across worlds. I don't need to fully rehash that one as the full breakdown for it can be found here. The one part of it I will link here is this verse:
Though I walk this world
I am nowhere to be found
Every thought's of you
But for now you're not around
This focus on the "world" being what's lost can be used as a literal description, as it's not wrong to say that Ruby fell somewhere apart from Remnant. However, as Treasure came after Sky is Falling, it's hard to not see it as a direct reference:
Our world’s
Lost without a soul
We’re losing all control
Not getting closer
(...)
Lost control
I think I'm gonna lose it
All my sanity's slipping away
This loss of control and sanity, specifically being linked to the grief of a soul lost to another world... is just a symbolic way of summarizing Oscar's state in the epilogue. How he feels uncertain without Ruby around. How the merge is progressing faster each day, and him and Oz are fighting to stop it from overtaking him. It might even be referencing that bit earlier about how they can only win - and by extension, free Oscar from this curse - if everyone works together. And how it can feel like the world is ending when Ruby, someone who needs to be a part of that final fight is missing.
“You always believed in the best.
Saw people for who they really were.
Some of us don’t know anymore...”
Overall, Sky is Falling is quintessentially an Oscar song. From the specifics of his experience with the merge, his inherited feud with Salem, to his insecurities, his attachments, and his grief. It's the whole package. Quite fitting for The Little Prince who once lived on an asteroid only to crash land - from the sky - into a lonely desert apart from his Rose.
For the Rosegarden prompts, how about Oscar meeting Ruby's parent(s)? (Could be either Taiyang or, for an angstier route, Summer's grave)
Rosebuds in the Garden
Gentle sunlight streams in through the window. Outside, a songbird lands on the sill ledge, hopes around a little, cocks its head, and then takes off again. Sunflowers in the garden shift with the quiet breeze.
Ruby stirs. Not ready to be awake, she burrows deeper under the covers. With a contented sigh, she goes to snuggle up against the slumbering form of her partner, only to find empty space where he should be. Ruby cracks an eye open. She groans. Of course he’d have gotten up already. She catches sight of the digital clock on the bed table. Okay, maybe it is rather late in the morning. But still.
Rolling over on her back, Ruby opens her eyes. She inhales deeply, and exhales. She rubs the sleep out of her eyes. After taking one last moment to enjoy the warmth and comfort of bed, Ruby sticks her toes out from under her blankets into chilly air.
It’s weird not to put on her combat gear, but also nice, in a way. After everything, to have a break, time to just relax, though it feels foreign and strange, is a welcome relief.
Gazing at her reflection in the bathroom mirror, Ruby smiles softly at the t-shirt she threw on. She got it at a rock concert she and Oscar went to while passing through Argus on their way home to Patch. The event was more her jam than his, but he’d gone along with her anyway. Later that night, Oscar admitted, right before she did, that he wanted to spend more time with just her like this. They hadn’t said ‘I love you’ or kissed, but they had intertwined their hands and exited the night an official couple.
Deciding to forego socks, Ruby pads downstairs barefoot. Her feet thump in a familiar rhythm against the wooden stairs. As she approaches the kitchen, Ruby hears sizzling and two familiar voices engaged in jovial conversation. She stops in the doorway to observe.
“As soon as Ruby learned to walk, let me tell you, she was zipping everywhere.” Taiyang takes some plates out of one of the cupboards, and puts them down on the side of the stove, where Oscar is carefully frying eggs. “No one actually believed she could go as fast as she did, especially when we left the cookie jar unguarded. This one time—”
“Daaaaad!” Ruby whines loudly, stopping Taiyang’s story and announcing her presence. “What have you been telling him?”
Taiyang grins back at her. “Well, good morning to you too, sleepyhead. I just thought, as a responsible father, I should tell Oscar here all about your childhood exploits.” To her continued pout, he says, “Hey, that’s what you get for sleeping in late.”
“Ugggh. You’re the worst.” Ruby sticks out her tongue at Taiyang, who makes a face back.
Oscar looks between the two of them, clearly unsure of whether he should chime in or not. Seeing that Ruby and her dad have started a competition out of who can make the weirdest face at the other, he decides not to intervene and instead expertly slides the eggs out of his pan onto the plates Taiyang provided.
Ruby wins the competition, or at least makes the last funny face. She approaches Oscar and reaches for some of the food he’s prepared. “Ooh, yummy.”
Oscar swats her hand away. “Be careful, that’s still hot.”
“I can handle it.” Ruby goes for the food a second time.
“No.” Oscar grabs her wrist and holds her hand away. “Just be patient.”
“But I’m huuungry.”
“And you’ll eat,” Oscar retorts. “In a couple minutes, when everything’s ready.”
Ruby gives Oscar a Look, which he answers with a raised eyebrow. Then, in a flash, Ruby leans in, pecks Oscar on the lips to distract him, steals a bit of egg and toast, steps back, and gulps down the food in one go. Oscar shakes his head and rolls his eyes at her antics. Ruby giggles.
“Sooo…” Taiyang reminds them that yes, he is, in fact, still there. “I need to head to Signal. Class this afternoon to prepare for and whatnot. I’ll be home in time for dinner.” He looks between them. “Try not to get into too much trouble, or get Zwei sprayed by a skunk. Again.”
“We won’t!” Ruby reassures him.
“Right.” Taiyang looks between her and Oscar disbelievingly, but shrugs. He grabs his breakfast, a thermos of coffee, and heads out.
Oscar finishes stacking his and Ruby’s plates with eggs, toast, and orange slices. He walks thems over to the table. “What do you want to do today?”
The smile falls from Ruby’s face. “I…there’s someone you still need to meet.”
It’s just past noon when Ruby and Oscar make it to the top of the cliff. Ruby leads Oscar, gently pulling him along by the hand. This introduction will be less nerve-wracking for him than when he met Taiyang, Ruby knows, but it won’t be easy. For either of them.
She thinks back to when they visited an old rowan tree in a quiet meadow on Oscar’s aunt’s farm, and the graves carefully tended to in its shade. Oscar’s parents had died during a Grimm attack on what had then been a nearby town (she and Oscar passed through the ruins on their travels—that had been a hard day). Oscar had been too little at the time, to truly remember them, he admitted to Ruby the day he introduced her to his parents, but his aunt told him stories.
There’s comfort for both of them, in knowing the other understands what it’s like to grow up missing someone they never truly knew, but it’s a hard feeling to describe.
Ruby kneels before Summer’s grave. Oscar joins her. He keeps her hand clasped in his own. It feels odd, being here. Ruby knows what happened to Summer now, the tragedy of that last mission. She understands why her mother thought she had to go, even if a selfish part of her still wishes she hadn’t.
“Hi, mom,” Ruby starts. She knows Summer isn’t actually there, but it makes her feel better to think she’s connected to her mother when coming here regardless. “I want you to meet someone.” She looks up away from the stone to Oscar. She looks into his hazel eyes, wholly his own now that Ozpin has finally been allowed to rest. “His name’s Oscar.” Ruby pauses to take a breath. “I think you’d have liked him.”
They can never really be certain of the truth of that statement, but, back at the house, white flower buds appear on the rosebush in the garden.

My brother who also watches RWBY knows I draw a lot of Rose Garden and he saw this by chance and was like ‘that is so dang cute I can’t even’ then he told me I’m abusing my art skills and to stop or else he’s going to start shipping these two and I’m just like ‘mission accomplished’.
Here is another Rosegarden drawing. I started drawing this a few days after RWBY V6 C9 came out but due visiting family as well as getting sick why me? it wasn’t until now that I was able to post it. Also I really love Oscar’s new outfit.
