“preoccupied is definitely a word,” sam said with a sigh, pulling her closer and acting grumpy to try to cover up how genuinely worried he’d been (and still was) about seyeon. she was just a kid, who was doing quite well and learning fast, but who also was getting so much criticism and hate left and right. that couldn’t be good for her. “why don’t you? you and jenny and haebi are all intelligent and talented enough to make it work. plus, you’d be control of your release schedule, so you could make it a lot more consistent. and you’d get to do more solo stuff if you wanted it,” he pointed out. “they both looked dead inside. they should have changed their team name like hyosang did.”

"I don’t think I could’ve done it, not like how you got through it,” Jei said softly, brushing his hair away from his eyes with the tip of her fingers as she watched his expression change. She saw how stressed he had been during Unpretty and trying to help Seyeon, and jumping straight into the tour hadn’t really been the break that Jei had hoped he would be able to get. Or that she thought Seyeon should get, for that matter. Anything but that poor girl’s group disbanding, again. Jei paused, not knowing how exactly she should even try to explain all her thoughts about leaving her company. “I dunno, Shinwoo,” she said. “I’ve thought about just straight up leaving a lot. I love Mercury, but I can’t even be sure if I should stay in it sometimes. I miss how it used to be, I like writing all our stuff together now but, I don’t know, maybe I just used to see the whole thing with rose-tinted glasses when I was younger.” Jei laughed at his last comment. “Yeah, maybe next time you should just get a cute dog and never shut up about it.”

“sam likes me better anyway.”

“What, is it some sort of tiny leader-rapper alliance?”

“we’ll bring lucy unnie and get her to translate.”

“I think she has more important things to do now, Donny.”

“You’re not sick of living together again, are you? Because I think it’s been kind of nice….”

“I kinda missed it, just a little bit,” Jei laughed. “Being on the tour just made me actually remember what it was like to share rooms with you guys instead of just all those times little baby me would stay up watching horror movies on the floor of the living room until way too late at night.”

“when the new one comes out we gotta see it, wherever we are. i need to see it as soon as possible– on all the posters, luke skywalker is in the spots only bad guys go and it’s stressing me out.”

“Duh, but it might be a little harder to figure out what they’re doing to Luke if we have to watch it in Spanish.” 

“sam likes me better anyway.”

“You can take him then.”

… Do you really think he’s “sick” whenever he just leaves a TNT concert?

If that friend is Adonis Shin, I’m not answering that question.

“oh, probably. unless seyeon was too distracted by unpretty to notice,” he said with a little sigh, idly playing with her hair while he worked. “another great talent that they are dangerously close to wasting, really. you know how much i love you, but god, if i was under ds, i would break away just to help make another alpha.” he smiled a little. “they’re fortunate that their only choices were such good ones. even despite daeil leaving them halfway through the season.”

“I wouldn’t blame her if that was what happened,” Jei thought back to how painful that whole experience seemed at times, and that was just from watching the show. “It seemed like she was a little... preoccupied with Unpretty,” she finally said, watching him pull the end of her hair between his fingers absentmindedly. “I love you too, Shinwoo,” Jei replied softly. She wanted to return his smile, but somehow it was easier to just shake her head. “I probably would have actually tried to do that by now if Mercury was still there.” She laughed, “they still got to have a team the whole season, even if he just looked even more dead inside whenever they got referred to as ‘team DS.’”

“If you start getting homesick for somewhere with shorter people, maybe I’ll let you borrow Sam. Or Jenny. It depends on how nice you ask.”

“What country do you hate the most? Because we need to have a Star Wars marathon, but I don’t wanna miss any good sightseeing days.” @rvxjei

“America. That’s easy,” she said, laughing at herself once she spoke. “But honestly, there’s probably more time for Star Wars before the tour gets there.”

“you’re one of ds’ most senior girls, they’d trust you with it because you’re clearly reliable.” kaeun said with a nod. “clearly your songs can be someone’s debut. i’ll keep you in mind to write jaekyun’s debut song because i’m sure that’s his destiny.”

“I figured Jaekyun was just going to be the start of the next generation of TNT, so I guess he would be in need of a debut song,” she laughed. “You already have enough stories about him to support it. Though I gotta say, his girl group covers are still my favorites.”

“brokids. it’s a good word. it fits, okay.”

“Should I even question it at this point, Donny?”

He nodded a little, squeezing her and kissing her cheek. “It suits them. You took into account the fact that if you made them do cute shit, Haein and Seyon would both jump into the river, and that if there wasn’t opportunity for good choreography, Chaeneul would refuse to perform it.” He snorted. “Sinhye is a smart kid. Before I knew her, I trusted her more than DS’ marketing team, and after seeing her work on Unpretty, I trust her even more.”

"Haein and Seyeon would’ve probably raced each other there,” she laughed softly, snuggling closer into him. “Thank god for Chaeneul, if DS had wanted me to figure out choreography for them as well, we would’ve all been screwed,” Jei replied. “DS still doesn’t know how lucky they are to have Sinhye. She and the rest of Juno seem to be doing well in spite of them. I’m not surprised they wanted her to be on Unpretty, though. She’s probably the only obvious choice for judges that DS has, they’re definitely not like Alpha when it comes to that.” 

“I didn’t say nothing, but I don’t think I was very convincing. I told them that we were just like all other idols. They probably didn’t believe me, though.” Eunjung nodded. “Even when we have comebacks, they’re still talking about her hair. Maybe we’ll get an award for being the world’s most boring celebrities.”

“Maybe one day we’ll all go blonde except for Jenny just to see what Dispatch says. If her hair is the most interesting thing about us, we might as well mess with everyone.”

“that boy is astounding. i am astounded.”

“Yeah... that’s definitely one way to describe him. I’m sure it’s not the first thing some other people would pick, but you’re not wrong.”
