“real talk, do normal idols get like…training on how to not have an out-of-body experience every time they’re on some sort of variety? because it’s been five years, and i still feel like i don’t know what the fuck i’m doing. also covering my tattoos is such a pain in the ass, but that’s besides the point.”

“well, if you ever figure it out, let me know,” daeyeon shook his head. “not likely i’d be going on any variety shows any time soon, but they always made my head spin when i went on with juno.”

“considering that some of the really pissed off jupiters sold or binned mine after i left, yeah, i think they probably do care,” he replied quietly, a small, self-deprecating smile on his face. daeyeon had expected negative backlash both when he left and when he publicly re-signed with higher, but fans going as far as to get rid of his merch when spotlight stated he left due to being unfit to continue, rather than through a scandal, had honestly been a bit of a shock. “they’ve likely already noticed - sorry, man.”

“i did it. i got another dog. this is the best day of my life,” hyosang announced loudly, waving around his phone, open to a picture of his new friend. “his name is ricky. it’s short for brick. i love him.”

“this is the best day of your life? what about the day you got fish? i think he’s gonna be really offended,” daeyeon joked with a raised eyebrow. “gotta love them equally or he’ll develop an oldest child syndrome.”

[ i was trying to have a conversation – the best i could – with someone the other day, and i don’t think it fully got through to them why i write things out. when i wrote them my reply to their verbal question, they took my notepad and pen and wrote their message back. it was funny more than anything, but you’d think by now most people would know my specific circumstances… ]

dayeon tried not to laugh, but really, he couldn’t help it. still, while haena’s anecdotes were often so ridiculous they became funny, seeing the level of ignorance with which she was often treated was saddening. “i guess they were trying to be empathetic?” he shook his head with a bemused chuckle. “though how taking away your only means of communicating and replying in turn to them would help is beyond me...” 

“it, uh,” daeyeon tried somewhat unsuccessfully to stifle a quiet chuckle. “it sure does seem to be.” rejectz by nature went against the grain with their releases, but he couldn't say he hadn’t been (pleasantly) surprised at just how far they’d taken it this time, both with the musical direction and the content. “that article really went there with the headline, huh? you guys must be pleased it’s being received so positively, though - a couple of years ago censors would’ve been all over it.”
