Most castor oil sold online is heat-extracted. The ricinoleic acid — the compound that makes castor useful for scalp health — degrades in that process. Quality cold pressed castor oil has 85–90% ricinoleic acid. Heat processed doesn't. Most brands won't show you a COA to prove it either way.

What castor oil actually does: reduces scalp inflammation, improves circulation when massaged in. What it doesn't do: regrow hair from dead follicles. Nothing topical does that.

Overnight treatment works. Short 20-minute pre-wash doesn't do much. Mix 25% castor with coconut or sesame, massage into scalp, sleep on it. Shampoo goes on dry hair first — then add water. That's the step most people get wrong.
