“it’s a big job, but i love it,” blair admitted. “i’m good at it, and the idols i work with (for the most part) are fun people to hang around. and keeping people safe feels good.”

“you’re a good dude, blair. they’re lucky to have you looking out for them.”

“i bet you whipped them into shape, though! you’re so cool and you know exactly what you’re doing.. they’d be stupid to overlook you,” mei said firmly. “okay…. from the top? or just the big spots?”

“ah- meilin, you think i’m cool? and here i thought you hated all this wrestling shit!” jenifer teased, rustling the smaller girl’s hair. she cracked her knuckles and stretched out her arms. “alright. we want cheap heat for me, so we start with you waving to fans from the ropes and me pulling you down by your braid. not the actual braid because i don’t want to hurt you-- i’ll pull you more by the base of your neck-- but that’s not what it’ll look like. we can start with practicing that.”

“please don’t make fun of me, jeni…” she whined, stifling another yawn and pouting. “whenever i don’t dry my hair, i swear my nose runs– it’s not just a myth!” she insisted. “honestly, i’m surprised some of your wrestler friends don’t get sick fighting with wet hair…”

jeni decided to forego the wet hair and worrying about it, dropping onto the bed next to dohee and spooning her (she was awake now, anyway-- who cares if she got a little damp?). “it’s mostly conditioner, to be honest. but i still think that’s bullshit and not how people get colds,” she retorted. 

she giggled, looking down at her toes. “please don’t. i’m tiny. you’re not. i’d fly.”

“you damn well know that’s not the type of push i mean, fuka. come on, now,” she laughed

“well, my hands are tied with spotlight. it’s a big job and i take it seriously. but if that ever slows down, i’ll give you a call. because i agree– that sounds fun,” he chuckled.

“i can imagine. i work with idols too, in a much different way and... well, i’ve gotten a taste of what those fans could be like. you’ve got a big job on your shoulders.”

“i would ask how you can put up with so much ego and testosterone, but i suppose that exists here too,” meilin sighed, biting back a laugh. “if… if you have the time, then, i’d appreciate it. i don’t want to cancel the spot. it will be cool, i want it to happen. i just…….am not comfortable yet.”

“it’s worse there, for sure. here people kind of have to work for what they have, and at mpwa especially, they work with women a lot more. there’s an air of entitlement with idols that is a pain in the ass sometimes, and the nature of the business means things are so separate and gendered. some of my clients needed an good ass kicking when i first started working with them,” she admitted. “i have time. i have more than enough time. let’s go over it slow a few times to get a feel for it, okay?”

she was only just waking up– the sun filtering in through the window was starting to rouse her. only for her to be absolutely assaulted by the sighed of her mostly-naked fresh-from-the-shower girlfriend when she rolled over to try to get the sun out of her eyes and get a bit more sleep. there were worse ways to wake up, she supposed. “i was going to say something about how nice it is to not share a room, but i don’t think i thought that through…” dohee answered groggily, stifling a yawn and adjusting the covers securely over her chest (she was a little shy..). “you should dry your hair before you get a cold….”

“i’ll forgive you-- your brain isn’t awake yet, so you have three free stupid statements that you can make until i start roasting you,” jeni answered, reaching over to fix dohee’s bangs slightly. “dohee, this isn’t a cheesy drama where everyone is so fragile they keel over the moment a breeze goes through. i’ve let my hair air dry for a quarter century-- i think i’m fine.”

“i guess asking when i’ll feel ready for that leap of faith is kind of silly, huh?” she asked sheepishly

“keep talking like that, and i’ll just have to push you,” jeni laughed

“are you sure? i know you have another job– i don’t want to take up too much of your time just because i’m insecure,” meilin replied nervously. “that’s fair. i know how good you are. no one stops talking about how incredible you coming back to wrestling is. i just… am still not used to being thrown around by people twice my size you know?”

“seriously, it’s good. that job is only mornings, and the guys i usually work with are promoting right now, so their schedules are packed. it’s less workouts, and more half hour check-ins at the moment. i have the time,” jeni assured her. “dude, seriously, don’t apologize. i know. this is a hard job. but we can practice this until you feel okay about it, and if you don’t, we’ll modify the spot. i’m not doing anything you don’t consent to. that’s part of wrestling.”

“i guess i’m just making excuses, then,” fuka sighed, pushing her hair back out of her face. “i should push for more. but i’m nervous to. i just don’t think i’m ready.”

“i mean, i get that. but at a certain point, you have to take that leap of faith, fuka. you have to have that belief in yourself and jump.”

“maybe someday my answer could change. who knows– maybe you could use a big burly presenter. but right now…. i’m fairly content with where i am. and what little brains i have left, i’d like to preserve.”

“wait, i know you’re joking but.....that’s kind of really funny,” jeni answered with a snort. “presenters are almost always women. and with you being as big as you are? interviewing someone like emi? that’s just classic comedy right there.”
