"More than likely, Ionia would no longer be here. Or we'd have a second circumstance like the Shadow Isles." He comments, grimacing. "Nasty work, there... And even if the denizens of the temple would have never used it, you and I both know that Noxians are power hungry fools."
"Spirits..." He mutters softly, frowning heavily. "Probably one of the few things I can't fight easily, and I'd like to avoid pissing them off. So we agree on that... As for not following me past the forest, I heavily suggest sticking to that. Rune Fragments tend to draw things that are unsavory at best."
He thinks back to the creature he'd fought over the most recent rune he'd acquired and rubs at a strange scar above one eye that appeared very out of place compared to the runic ones that covered his body. That had been one of his more harrowing experiences.
Then he focuses back on the monk, nodding to her. "I'll let you know what I find either way... Shouldn't be hard to find you, right? So long as you're at your monastery."
"Sadly, you speak the truth. Even if I believe in the pure spirit of my kin, the invaders might have used it to do more harm than good." A deep exhale follows from the Elder who turns their attention vaguely in the direction of the woods they were speaking of.
"I was actually thinking of staying at the mouth of the forest. Our paths need not cross more than is necessary. And even if there is nothing left but ruin and rubble, I would like to visit the remnants of the temple to honor the fallen for they have not gotten their respects since none have been able to reach the temple..."
"Regardless of what you find, and whether I wasted your time or not, I will part ways with you at the entrance of the forest, and head to the temple to see what I can do. It is my duty, as an Elder..."
Ryze nods solemnly. "That is simply the way that mortal minds work. Very few are truly without greed, which is what these things latch on to." The archmage wouldn't even go so far as to say that he, himself, was without greed. The only difference was that he had the willpower to fight against it.
"I will let you use your best judgement on that... My knowledge on spirits is surprisingly limited, since they're not extremely common outside of Ionia or... The Isles. I know plenty about the damned there, but they are fundamentally different from what I do understand. However," He takes a breath. "If this temple is within the forest like you have said..."
The archmage mulls it over for a moment. "...That is where I will find the rune, if it exists there. If you really intend on making it to that temple... I will travel with you. For the time being at least." It was sound reasoning. Ryze suspects that she wasn't helpless in a fight, but he also did not know what might be within that temple should the monk go alone. And he was probably heading there anyway. So why not accompany them? Even though the offer made the mage's skin crawl with an anxiety he never could shake.
