It’s taken years for me to accept who I am, in large part because I went through my childhood not seeing people like me; 19 years I told myself I was different, and for that I was ashamed of myself. Not everyone is fortunate enough to escape to a physical place where they are accepted. But we had this community we built here. Visibility matters. Seeing yourself in the light matters. And now, as a result of years of inaction and ambivalence about REAL issues, we - our community, our expression, our pride - are being pushed back to the shadows.
