Lot of the characters in the Aphverse donāt have canon jobs, especially in Mystreet so Iām curious what jobs everyone gives them in their headcanons/rewrites.
I like to think Aphmau has a million of those temp job apps on her phone. Zane does some admin/data entry shit, works from home. Dante really wanted to go into filmmaking but ended up being a trades guy (100% this is just bc I know some people in my trade like him lmao). Teacher!Garroth has grown on me thanks to You Know Who You Are and big fan of fabric shop employee Cadenza bc I projected on her HEAVY when I used to work at Joann Fabrics
Here are the jobs Iāve assigned everyone in my (potential) rewrite! (Warning: Long as heck because I have THOUGHTS.)
Aphmau is an editor/publisher! During Mystreet, she works at some magazine company, but her goal is to eventually write a fantasy YA novel. If I ever end up making a rewrite, I would have her finish the book right around the time Aaron fully heals from the events of Starlight. She also has a YouTube channel on the side, just like she does in Lover's Lane. Sheās not super famous or anything but she does have a dedicated following. She mostly posts silly vlogs or her playing video games with her friends.
Aaron is a tradesman with a degree in business. He mostly works blue collar jobs and is constantly job hopping whenever the opportunity arises since he likes the challenge of learning something new. Heās done construction, plumbing, worked as a car mechanic, and did maintenance on machinery at a factory. He's a pretty quiet guy so no one really knows much about him, but every once in a while he will share some of the horror stories about his jobs (usually someone getting injured) like it's no big deal, which causes everyone to stop and look at him with horror. And no, Aaron does NOT understand why, since these types of stories are normal to him.
Garroth initially gets a job helping his father out (who is an influencial politician in O'khasis instead of a businessman), but after it becomes clear that his father is prepping him to take over in office for him, Garroth ends up bailing out and moving in with Laurance. He spends a good chunk of his time jobless. He works odd one-off jobs on occasion, but doesn't really find his footing until he discovers carpentry. And, as it turns out (despite having no previous experience with it), he is shockingly good at it. He even starts running his own business where he will make custom furniture for people. He's always covered in sawdust and smells faintly like the wood of whatever project he is working on. Also, by the end of Lover's Lane, Zenix ends up becoming his apprentice, and it's just as chaotic as you'd expect.
Zane in my HC also does some smarty-pants stuff. I donāt have one picked out just yet, but his main job has something to do with computers and/or business. Heās also a shift worker, because I love the idea of him being up at odd hours during the day. But despite making a shit-ton of money with his main job, he also has a ton of side gigsā heās a delivery man, a barista, and a mall security guard (though the last one is only during the holiday season). He doesnāt actually care that much about money, he just likes keeping himself busyā though he ends up quitting all of his jobs right before Loverās Lane for health related reasons (āwhat do you mean working every single second of your life isnāt healthyā - Zane, probably) and eventually helps out KC with opening her cafe. He mostly handles the financial aspects of running the business, staying in the back and only occasionally wearing the butler uniform whenever theyāre short staffed.
Vylad starts off by studying to become an engineer, but he ends up getting burnt out after the first year and instead goes backpacking around the country. He moves back home eventually and takes a temporary job while he studies to become a therapist (He is 100% motivated by the trauma of being in a family that prefers to sweep their problems under the rug instead of talking about them)
Laurance is a chef. I donāt know if itās canon that heās a good cook but Iāve read so many fanfictions where he is one, so I canāt see him as anything else anymore.
Katelyn is a gym trainer and works security gigs at random establishments. She is the most buff person on the street, followed closely by Aaron and then Garroth. She likes directing plays or screenwriting in her spare time and is quite good at it.
Nana I personally HC as being a baker and waitress instead of working at maid cafes. She gets fired because she is too āunprofessionalā which is why she ends up making her own business. She actually owns the only maid cafe in the city since there was a vacancy. But instead of partnering with just Aph to do it, she gets Zane to help out (since he has a buttload of cash and actually has a degree in business). As a result, Zane mostly sits in the back handling all of the paperwork (only dressing up occasionally when they are short-staffed, though even then he will stay behind the counter and make coffee), so that way Nana can focus on all of the more visible parts of the companyā advertising, the menu, the style, etc.. It works out really well for them.
Lucinda still sells potions. She gets people around the street to help her out. Her go-to person for lifting boxes is Travis, and her assistant of choice for brewing potions is Zane (who is shockingly very interested in witchcraft). Travis helps out from the very beginning, but Zane only starts becoming close with Lucinda during Loverās Lane.
Dante is in a new MLM every single week. He only manages to stay afloat because he got stupid lucky with crypto. He got Travis into Crypto as well, and the two are idiot savants about it. Travis is a lot more willing to admit he doesnāt understand it, but Dante absolutely will throw out terms and pretend he knows everything about āthe marketā just to seem cool. I agree that when he is not doing that, he is selling or working on cars. (I just like his MYST counterpart to be dumber than his MCD one because man deserves a break)
Travis is kind of hard to pin down, and I may change this in the future, but I think he does side gigs for cash because he doesnāt really need it. Although the Roāmeaves are known as the resident rich boys on the block (though only Garroth actually receives financial assistance from their parents), Travis is the secretly wealthy one because of his father. He gets a monthly stipend for his rent and really only does side gigs for investment cash and whatnot. Itās why he doesnāt mind joining Dante in investing for Crypto, because he has a very YOLO mindset about things.
Sasha is a tattoo artist. On the side she makes jewelry, draws, and does tarot readings.
Zenix is a rabid homeless man who will park himself on any couch he sees. It is impossible to remove him once he finds a way inside of your house. He is a serial job hopper because he tends to quit at the first percieved insult. He is banned from multiple franchises because when he does quit, he usually does it in the most over-the-top way that occasionally results in property damage, fist fights, or mild arson. As mentioned, he becomes Garrothās apprentice in Loverās Lane. Heās not the best at carpentry, but being around Garroth does help mellow him out a ton.
Gene works in clubs, usually as a DJ or bartender. Itās why heās so good at being a waiter at the cafĆ©. He is, however, a chronic job hopper just like Zenix, though he doesnāt burn bridges when he leaves. Heās just the āgrass is always greenerā type.
I think I covered the most prominent characters! Genuinely I could yap for hours about my headcanons for each one of these guys. (Please ask me if youāre interested because I will NOT hold back)
