The Artist's Canvas . 05 June 2026 . The Gulf of Marseille Seen from L'Estaque . ca. 1885 . Paul CĂŠzanne French
On view at The Met Fifth Avenue in Gallery 826 CĂŠzanne enthused about the fishing village of LâEstaque to Pissarro in 1876: "It is like a playing card. Red roofs over the blue sea. . . . The sun is so terrific here that it seems to me as if the objects were silhouetted not only in black and white, but in blue, red, brown, and violet." CĂŠzanne painted some twenty views of L'Estaque over the next decade, a dozen of them facing toward or across the gulf of Marseille. In the distance of this painting, atop the hill to the right of the jetty, the towers of Notre-Dame de la Garde stand watch over the city of Marseille.

today the occupation murdered Anas Al-Sharif & the rest of Al-Jazeera crew in northern ghazzah.
im sure youâve heard and seen Anasâ reporting through 673 days of unmasked colonial brutality, he never stopped reporting.
but the world wasnât listening. and it is because the world wasnât listening that the occupation was able to make good on their campaign over the last year to annihilate Anas. simply for his will to tell the truth. to spread the stories of suffering before it was too late.
i want you to read a few parts of his will, his final words that he had prepared bcs death stalked him from every corner:
âIf these words reach you, know that Israel has succeeded in killing me and silencing my voice.â
âGod knows I have given all my effort and strength to be a support and a voice for my people since I opened my eyes to life in the alleys and streets of Jabalia Refugee Camp. My hope was that God would grant me life so I could return with my family and loved ones to our original town of Ashkelon (Al-Majdal), now occupied. But Godâs will was swifter, and His judgment is inevitable.
I have lived through pain in every detail, tasted grief and loss repeatedly, yet I never hesitated to convey the truth as it isâwithout distortion or alterationâhoping that God will witness those who remained silent, those who accepted our killing, those who suffocated our breaths, those whose hearts were unmoved by the scattered bodies of our children and women, and those who did not stop the massacre our people have suffered for over a year and a half.
I entrust you with Palestine, the jewel of the Muslim crown and the heartbeat of every free person in this world.
I entrust you with its people and its innocent children who were not granted a lifetime to dream or live in safety and peace. Their pure bodies have been crushed by thousands of tons of Israeli bombs and rocketsâtorn apart and scattered against the walls.
I urge you not to be silenced by chains or confined by borders. Be bridges toward liberating the land and its people until the sun of dignity and freedom rises over our stolen homeland.â
Anas told us not to be silent, so carry his will with your voice. keep screaming and striking the very systems that caused his murder. and do not forget about ghazzah.
