tactile kara and touch-starved lena

all they really want, all they really need, is the physical intimacy they’ve both become so accustomed to

so dependent on

lena cries and clutches onto kara but it’s not the same through the cold synthetic suit

she aches for kara’s warmth

she runs her fingers over the helmet, just wishing she could see kara’s face

she can’t see kara crying but she can feel her body shaking with sobs

lena spends every moment they’re apart trying to come up with a solution

kara watches her become haggard and gaunt from lack of sleep

watches the light fade from her eyes

all she wants to do is comfort her

to touch her

it’s killing her

killing both of them

being so close but not being able to really touch is the worst kind of torture

it’s like living death, almost

but then imagine when lena finally solves it

she runs test after test after test on just to be sure it’s safe

and then she goes to her

she goes to kara and she doesn’t say a single word

she just reaches around to the helmet release and pulls it off

the kara underneath has changed

she’s pale

grey under the eyes

but her eyes, oh how they still shine

there are tears streaming down both of their faces

and when they finally kiss

it is the sweetest and most perfect thing either of them have ever experienced

like finding a cool spring in the barren desert

like finally seeing the sun again

after what seemed like an eternity of darkness

they are alive, they are whole, and they are together

they can finally feel each other again
