It had been child's play to eliminate the immediate threat once the dagger had gone through the poor girl's chest, given a reaper's speed and weapon. For the time being, they were safe.
...Insofar as the definition of safe was: no-one was outright attacking them at that present fraction of a millisecond.
Rarely, Grelle Sutcliff considered saving those who were quite suddenly and randomly added to the to-die list— these things happened, after all; the list was a powerful force, but free will was ever such an adversary to play against— and really, human lives were plainly and evidently fragile. Decades were mere eye blinks; illness and violence were simple hazards of drawing breath.
But this girl...
Not only was she a significant part of the entire mess that upper management had been frustratingly tight-lipped about as of late, but she was also...
Well.
She was Angelina's.
So, the reaper's scythe was temporarily abandoned nearby, as she removed her coat— Angelina's coat— and, in quick succession, first yanked the blade from the wound, before pushing down upon it with inhuman strength, gritting her teeth against the very real doubt in her mind.
Grelle Sutcliff wasn't a doctor.
Her hands had never been made for healing (they were quite literally the hands of a corpse, for god's sakes!).
But, frankly put, this girl, under absolutely any circumstances, could not die. Grelle simply refused to let her.
So, she had to stop the bleeding, first. Then, she could worry about things like germs and stitches and the girl's physical pain (the dear thing...).
To calm both her nerves and the girl's, Grelle took up a quiet song, humming aloud sections of the third movement of Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique.
"Don't close your eyes." She whispered between bars. "And don't reminisce. Think of your future. Think of how badly this hurts. Think of..." Grelle struggled to recall details of the girl's life. It was easy to lose track of such things among every other human she'd learnt about that day alone— but this one was special. She was Madam Red's niece, and she...
She had a— "Brother. Think of your brother's hug when you come back to him alive. It's going to sting, I'll bet, but it'll be worth sticking around for. So don't you dare close your eyes, and don't you dare start remembering. You hear me?"
Giving just one look toward a person told Death everything he needed to know. A natural skill that came with every personification of Death. Mortals could serve these forms of Death, and it was a constant that survived around the world. Yet, she was intriguing. Much more of a natural European-sounding woman.
"Hmm ... that explains it ... " He hummed, scratching gently underneath his chin. "Human-born, yes. It's an intriguing answer to hear.
"But as for your delectable fun fact, I believe I have. But I'd like to hear a re-telling of it. To pass the time~."
Grelle's brows quirked with her delight, as she matched that wolfish grin with a fanged one of her own. "Oh, isn't it, just? My partner did the fiddly bits of the hysterectomies, but me? Ah..." The reaper sighed, as if remembering a walk on the beach, or a day spent at the spa.
"I did the stalking... the initial cut. The deep one, which sliced open the womb..." She traced a gloved finger over the still blade, savoring how it snagged on the fabric.
"I'll never forget the day I first learned of a tool designed exclusively for women, for that one procedure so many of us yet miss out on. It called to me; practically sang my name." Grelle stepped closer.
"I hunted on the streets of London, under a deceptively singular alias, one that's almost ironic, and most certainly still remembered. Six women, a timeless reputation, and all I got for it was a slap on the wrist. I do so love this job~✮!"
From @agnus-dei-advocatus-diaboli using the meme prompt:
Will: I'm picking the restaurant this time
Pre-Established Relationships ✮ Accepting
“What was wrong with my last pick?” Grelle pops her head out from the bedroom, where she’d previously been in the middle of makeup application—
Clearly pouting, the effect of which was a bit thrown off by the fact that she only had lashes on one eye, and her lips weren’t even lined, yet.
“One would think you could appreciate a bit of a rowdy time; you like me, after all.”

Kicks the door down; my Grelle muse is still pretty low but SHE!!! (Spoilers for the new chap)

"Given that I was born human, I suppose I'll allow you that concession, though what I am is far from a living body." The reaper smirked, crimson lips parting some.
"That's a multi-faceted answer. I answer to the Grim Reaper Dispatch Association of London... but as for where I learned to hunt..."
Her thumb ran fondly over the steel handle of her scythe. "Have you ever heard tale of why the chainsaw was first invented?"

do you remember what i told you last time?
have you been doing well since i saw you?
that's not what you told me back then.
when was the last time i saw you?
you were shorter then.
i'm picking the restaurant this time.
we've known each other since we were children.
always knew i could count on you.
that time was different. this is worse.
you're not going to let me live that down, are you?
i seem to remember a conversation we had back then.
so you changed your mind about it?
do you remember our encounter in paris?
you should know me by now.
am i the only one that knows the truth?
we had a lot of help back then.
your mom told me to look out for you.
you just love bringing that back up to annoy me.
maybe don't mention my past indescretions?
this was never going to work out between us.
i told you not to get attached.
i know more about you than you think.
i was there, remember?
i'm not about to forget all the shit you put me through.
you told me you were going to try and make this work.
remember what i said to you?
the last time i saw you, things were good between us.
you never mentioned this before.
that was the longest flight of my life, and you made it worse.
can i still trust you after all that?
at least we tried to make something work.
we never discussed what happened between us.
okay, but i'm driving the car this time.
i haven't forgotten what you said last week.
i'm still thinking about your comment.
i didn't realize it was you when i first saw you.
you seem to make a lot of enemies around here.
there's not much for us to talk about.
we worked it out last time.
i know you far better than you know yourself.
we have a long history.
is that the shirt you were wearing last time?
what don't i know about you?
i haven't told them about us.
you were the only person i could go to.
you know me.
this is bigger than both of us.
i can't stand your driving.
are you taking me to the place we had dinner last time?
that's not at all what you said.
didn't we agree on that?
i thought i made it very clear where i stand.
are these the same people that came after you last time?
are you still going on about it?
can we talk about it?
staying silent about it won't help.
you're the only person who knows the real me.
this is a bad time to talk about your problems.

Until Angelina had introduced her to high society, Grelle had always wanted to attend a masquerade ball. And indeed, that dream had come true by her late lover's hand mere weeks into their dalliance, while it was still giggly, light, fresh and thrilling. Before it had deepened into something elegiac and haunting, obsessive and precious.
It had, like many things their relationship, sparked a newfound delight, a favorite way to spend her time on off-days.
She was dressed in, naturally, a crimson gown, covered in black lace and ruby stones, and her mask was a thin, scarlet number, bejeweled and glittering. The outfit in full had cost her a handful of saved up paychecks and a number of hours of her time between shifts to craft, but it was more than worth the attention and how lovely she felt wearing it.
Little had she known, she wouldn't be seeking to impress humans alone that evening.
She sensed him before she saw him, and she had little doubt he'd felt the same or something similar. For her, it was like a cold shiver down her spine, the hairs on the back of her neck raising, as the scent of death wafted over to her. She savored its flavor palette— he really did have good style, didn't he?— before turning to smile at him teasingly. "But of course I'm here! Fate has brought us together again; it's like it was meant to be!" Grelle fanned herself with her hand— in particular, her hand, around which a cord looped.
Attached to it was her dance card, and in her fluorescent green eyes, a dare twinkled.
An observant creature might notice a pencil tucked behind one of her ears.

Ruby has Grelle bent over her desk in the library, exploratory hands already traveling to places no honest woman ought to know about. "If you knock over the inkwell, my dear, you're going to regret it." It's a challenge far more than it's a threat.

you have to be open to change. you never know what the weather will bring.
don't feel like you have to do anything for me.
i've been very lonely, _____.
you don't have to marry anyone to be happy.
you don't know me. i could be so awful.
it was neat to see you so happy.
i could never replace you.
murder can be fun, right? if you're not the one being murdered, of course.
would you have come, if you knew?
have you been in many relationships?
you are very interesting, and super capable, and quite pretty.
i keep people at a distance, i know.
you sound like a fucking alien.
sorry. i know this is weird.
_____ doesn't know you're coming?
i was prepared to really hate you.
i'm going to keep lying, unless something changes that makes me tell the truth.
please don't. i already feel like shit, okay?
you're pretty darn easy to scare.
it's pretty damn bad, but it won't stay this bad. i'll tell you that for sure.
i'm not much for marriage, but i do like companionship.
i am not candid with many people, but i'll probably never see you again.
you want to come with me? you're sure?
i was a little scared of you, when we first met.
i'm trying to make sure this isn't a dream.
it's not a dream, okay? this is real.
you're not going to make trouble, are you?
i let other people guide my life when i was a kid, and it did not go well.
i didn't fall asleep. i promise.
sorry. i wanted to say it at a more opportune time.
we've got four kinds of poptarts.
everything about you makes me suspect you're some kind of fairy creature.
i think i scare my mom a little bit. just a little.
my parents think i'm kind of weird.
did you think we'd get this close?
beginner's luck, i guess.
why do you always talk like a fake lawyer when you get nervous?
i'm trusting you.
the longer we sit here, the more suspicious it looks.
i think we need to pretend like this didn't happen.
i never had anxiety until i met you.
you're overthinking this.
it is definitely unexplainable and ominous.
you found me. how did you find me?
can we not do this here?
i can make coffee. we have a lot to talk about.
______ is kind of a cool name.
i never knew that. you never told me.
i thought you'd be happier to see me.
okay. i'm just going to ask. are you the leader of a cult?
i hate that i did what i did. i don't know why i did it. i wish i hadn't.
it was the worst day of my life, when you left.
i have actually never held a human child in my entire life.
it's never the kid's fault.
can i film you? the light is nice.
i am happy. i'm fine.
i've never yelled this much in my life.
it's good, you know, to have roots.
i feel like i'm auditioning for something.
that's the thing about quests: you have to get back to where you started, and you have to keep living.
can i hug you?
just scooch over and let me sit down. i need to tell you something.
are we leaving? what's happening.
i'll always be grateful you did this with me. you didn't have to.
can i say that i love you?
you'll always have me. anything else that happens, you will always have me.
There’s something I really love about Grelle’s love of aesthetics and appearance. She finds the coldness of death to be utterly beautiful, and she shapes herself to be something just as frigid and gorgeous. Something elegant and gothic. And then she completely hides that behind a playful and flamboyant and ditzy persona, because nothing would be more devastating than her efforts being for naught— so it’s much easier to simply pretend like her efforts are for a completely different goal, one she superficially succeeds at. After all, if she’s good at being bold and annoying and silly, she can’t be hurt by not being taken seriously, nor by others not giving a shit about her at all.
Grelle’s canon belly-button piercing. That’s it that’s the post
The way I write Grelle, she is 90% of the time completely and utterly fake; one of these days, I really should expose her to being forced into a position where she cannot hide, lie, act, or deflect. I feel it could do wonders for her relationships with other people
