danger is real. fear is a choice

"Like whom?"
Brow knits in consternation. It (surprisingly enough) isn't the first Hectorâs been likened to another, and so he can but presume it won't be the last. More importantly:
"You've an oddly familiar bearing yourself."
He can't quite place it, however. But that is neither here nor there.
"So then, Almighty Mystic, share with us your words of counsel, hm? What is a man to do to prove himself worthy of his people's faith?"
Hector may not have heard the entirety of the redhead's confession to the supposed guru, but he's heard enough. He bristles, arms coming to cross over burly chest in a clearcut statement:
the 'guru' had best choose his words wisely.
... And yet, despite Hector himself being curious as to the answer - for, ahem, no particular reason - he cannot help but frown all the more.
"... Hey, kid," ignore that the 'kid' in question scarce looks much younger than Hector himself, "you really think this guy's gonna fix your fears?"
Far be it from Roy to assume anything of anyone, but this man had quite an air of familiarity about him. His build was stockier, perhaps even a bit shorter (though it was hard to say from Royâs vantage point), but he had the same hard eyes. Had it not been for having met his father, decades younger, right at this same school, the man could very well have been just another prospective student: a foreigner, in a strange land, just as he himself was. Roy eyed the cobalt hair just a bit longer, and decided.Â
This man had to be the younger of the late Lord Hector of Ostia. Was it really so far-fetched that both his father and Lilinaâs would attend the same officerâs academy? Time change aside, hadnât there been other strange considerations as well? Coincidences do not come lightly to those in high places.Â
â...just like Lord Hector,â he breathed, still scarcely believing his words. âItâs an honor to meet you again.â
Roy thought about what he asked. There was no easy solution, no trite, concise answer that would satisfy him, he already knew. So why ask?Â
âIâm just curious.â
Roy hoped his words were stronger than his delivery. This man was a phantom to him, having passed away over a year ago now. It was not as seeing a ghost, not quite, but he could not help but fill with melancholy at the notion. He could feel his temples growing cold, and he forced himself to straighten up. He looked back at the guru inquisitively.
The guru closed his eyes. He spoke slowly, and his voice rattled lightly, as if his jaw was connected with but small, delicate pieces.Â
âYour answer has come to greet you.â Roy waited for more. But the man retreated into his stall, with one final peaceful smile at the duo. âHey, wait, come backâŚ.!â Royâs voice trailed off as he thought over the words. Come to greet me? Does he mean Hector? He was hesitant to ask, but perhaps who better to ask than someone else in his position. Though he couldnât bring himself to make eye contact again just yet, he turned to Hector. âEr, I⌠Lord Hector, do you know what he meant?â
