The Eight Sabbats Part 2
Note: please let me know in dms or in the comments if I missed something, or got something wrong! My point of making posts like these is to inform, but sometimes my research and information can be incorrect itself! Please let me know! <3 Part 3 is coming out soon.
The eight sabbats/the wheel of the year are holidays around the year, generally celebrated by pagans, witches, or wiccans. The sabbats/holidays divide the year into eight equal parts that mark the beginning and mid-points of each season. *The pictures included are not mine*
Symbols of Samhainism: The Bat
Bats represent the necessary evils. While most people that love Halloween probably love bats, as well, there are still many who fear them; despite their essential role in the environment. We, like the bat, can rise above our fears!
Happy Halloween!
Hail Samhain!

Iâm back, witches! <3
Herbs herbs herbs! For all your reference, spell making and craft needs.
Spider Web Spells
To Catch Someone's Eye:
Red or Pink Candle
Spider Web
Sugar or Honey
Carve the name of the person into the candle. Roll the candle in the web. Nestle the candle in sugar or honey and light it while thinking about them and the good things you see in them.
(Note: this is NOT a love spell. This will only open their eyes to you. It won't make them fall in love with you. It will not take away their choice or free will. Think of it like someone offering you a dessert that you didn't know was available. The dessert was there all along and if you want it you can accept it. If you don't want it, you're still able to decline it, the choice is yours. I do not condone love spells that take away a person's own choices or thoughts.)
To Attract Luck or Fortune:
Cinnamon (ground or stick)
Nutmeg
Pine Needle (or three drops of pine oil)
A Bay Leaf
A penny
Spider Web
Green Candle
Jar or Satchel
Old Purse or Wallet
Gather cinnamon (ground or stick), nutmeg, pine needle (pine oil works too) , a bay leaf and a penny. Wrap all of these in spider web. It doesn't have to completely cover it. If you're using a jar, put everything in the jar, close the lid and melt the candle wax over top. If you're using a satchel, melt some of the wax over your bundle before placing it in the satchel. Place the jar or satchel in an old purse or wallet for monetary fortune. Carry the jar or satchel with you for an extra boost of good luck.
To Keep Someone Away From You:
Pen
Paper (small scrap)
Spider Web
Write the person's name on the paper and roll it in the web. Cut the bundle in half and burn each half separately.
(Note: This spell is meant to help bind the energy between you and the person and sever ties. Be completely sure you want to cut this person from your life before you do this spell.)
Spider web is also a great addition to a number of different spells to bind energy/intent or to even help target the focus of your spell.
Please use caution when adding spider web to hexes and curses. Not only will it bind and focus, but it will also magnify it and make it harder to get rid of, because webs are sticky and hard to get out of.

a love potion.đ
i spent ages working on a lengthy, detailed post all about imbolc and the goddess brigid for the upcoming sabbat, but just as i was about to finish i accidentally left the site and all was lost! but (though i was pretty miserable about it), i still wanted to post something today. so hereâs a simple, sweet potion to help you attract some romance into your life.
ingredients: frozen raspberries and strawberries, honey, vanilla extract, sun water and an orange.
raspberries and strawberries promote love and fertility, whilst honey can sweeten up any spell and simply make the potion taste nicer (it also has love correspondences). vanilla represents both passion and protection. sun water is magickal in itself and being charged in this way makes the potion especially fiery and romantic. finally, oranges are known for beauty, as well as being associated with the fire element.
feel free to swap out any of these for another similar ingredient to meet any preferences or dietary requirements. for example, if youâre vegan, you could supplement honey for golden/maple syrup.
also note that the measurements for these ingredients will all depend on how much potion you want to brew!
equipment: a kettle, a saucepan (or a cauldron if youâre feeling especially witchy), anything to stir with and a grater, which is optional. youâll also need any serving glass or bottle of your choice for consuming the potion.
timings: itâs best to make this brew during a new or waxing moon. personally, i like to have this potion at imbolc since itâs a time of transformation for the earth and new life, so why not transform your love life too?
now for the fun part: the method.
step one: tip the frozen berries into the saucepan on medium-low heat. stir clockwise until the berries stew, meaning theyâll thaw, becoming soft and mushy whilst releasing their juices into the pan. whilst they stew, boil some water in a kettle.
step two: add the hot water to the pan as well as the sun water. keep stirring until the water is just steaming slightly.
step three: add a drizzle of honey and a few drops of vanilla extract.
step four: after stirring again, cut the orange in half and squeeze the juice from both halves into the pan.
step five: your potion is complete! after allowing it to cool, you can serve it in any cup, glass or bottle before enjoying. an optional step is to grate a little orange zest on top.
step six: simply focus on your intent whilst drinking the brew, or say the words:
âby the sun, i beckon a warm and passionate lover, who takes note of my beauty and charm. may they be a sweet partner in all that we do; to this love there shall come no harm.â

What to use when in Witchcraft -
Ok so I am gonna say this is my personal reference, its mainly through associations. You might TOTALLY disagree and thats chill!
Its more something to think about and a guideline of what I use myselfâŚ
Candle Magic:
Carve a candle whenâŚ. the candle represents the target, in sympathetic magic. When, essentially, the candle is a poppet and lighting it is a symbol of destruction or empowerment to the target.
Place something under the candle or before it when⌠you are doing general candle magic, when the candle represents empowering a wish, idea or concept.
Anoint the candle when⌠doing work with spirits and gods, when you mark the candle for a special purpose, when doing high magic.
Herbs and plant work:
Use dry herbs when⌠it is convienent to do so, when the herbs are out of season or when you need to store them in a jar or bottle for a long time.
Use fresh herbs when⌠the spell is very earth orientated, when doing magic on behalf of another or when the magic is sympathetic so that the herbs represent the target, within kitchen witchery.
Use flowers when⌠when the spell concerns love and sex, or perhaps fertility and attraction, due to flowers being the reproductive parts of the plant.
Use fruit when when⌠working with children as a target, or with children practising. When you work with fertility and abundance spells.
Use wood and twigs when⌠when the spell is for protection or binding, for hardiness.
Burn herbs (recaning/incense) when⌠you wish to cleanse or banish, or invoke an atmosphere - that being, for divination using herbs that are said to open up your perceptions, when banishing, burning acrid or pungent herbs.
Use oil infusions when⌠you wish to anoint something, when you wish to mark something permanently.
Use floral waters (rose water etc) when⌠dealing with spirits and gods, for glamour as it has a long history of being used to beautify.
Crystals:
Use metals (haematite, copper, ores etc..) when⌠you work in protection, when you do energy work due to the conductive properties of metal.
Use shell, pearl, coral and such when⌠you work in sea magic, when you work within emotional magic due to the element of water.
Use points when⌠you wish to direct magic to a target.
Use tumble stones when⌠you wish the magic to be gentle or manifest at a certain place on the body on a target.
Use geodes when⌠you work in protection, when you work with glamour aimed to obscure and hide.
Knot magic:
Use cotton when⌠it is convenient.
Use silk when⌠doing spells that benefit the target.
Use ribbons when⌠love spells and wealth spells, as well as confidence and beauty spells. Spells to ensure victory.
Use rope when⌠doing spells that aim to hurt or weaken the target, binding especially.
Poppets:
Use cloth when⌠the spell aims to benefit who the poppet represents, use particular care when sewing or cutting, choose colours that are appropriate to them.
Use wax when⌠you wish to manipulate the target.
Use clay when⌠wish to create fetches or servitors, when you wish to create permanency.
Use twigs when⌠you wish to bury or throw the poppet out, when you want the poppet to be easily destroyed by breaking or setting on fire.
Sigils:
Use an alphabet grid or circle when⌠you wish the sigil to be more random and less attached to you.
Combine the shapes of letters from a sentence⌠when your sigil is very specific and a short term goal.
Use your own personal symbols when⌠you want the magic to be connected to you, when it is personal.
Lemon Lavender Poppy Seed Teacake
magick of the moon
new moon: lunar energies encourage new beginnings. this is when you want to initiate new adventures or to ignite dreams. think about doing magical workings for a new job, new home, or anything new you want to bring into your life. the magic done during this time will continue to grow and feed off the energies of the moon as the phases move forward to full. (a great time to pick a topic and study it until the next lunar phase)
waxing moon: energies are fairly similar to the new moon, but with an emphasis on growth. think about doing magical workings in regards to constructing, strengthening, or gaining. this is a wonderful time to attract things into your life that youâve been seeking. do you want a better relationship? an increase in salary? this is a wonderful time to work towards those goals and to continue pushing for anything you may have started during the new moon.
full moon: think fruition. this is the time where anything you set to seed during the new moon, will come to be. the full moon is arguably the most powerful phase in the lunar cycle. this is the time to work spells for retaining, receiving, or anything you want to bring to a successful culmination. it is a wonderful time for manifesting, or anything that needs a little extra âumphâ.
waning moon: this is when the moon begins to âwaneâ or decrease in size, and the energies emitted reflect that. this is a great time to work with spells regarding banishment, decreasing something, overcoming, and resolving things. if you want to cut ties with a person, decrease a feeling, or work on an emotional toll youâre experiencing, this is the perfect time to do it. this is also a perfect time to work household purification or cleansing rituals, as itâs a great time to drive negative energy away. (but of course cleansing & purification can be done during any point in time.)
dark moon: this is during the period of time between the waning and the new moon; when the moon is no longer present in the sky. some people choose to identify this moment in the lunar phase as the new moon, and really itâs up to each individual person to choose how they would like to interpret it. (remember what works for you, may not work for others.) some witches may choose not to practice at all during this phase- they may use it as a period of reflection, and to create new workings for the new moon. if you do choose to work with the dark moon, do so with respect and with open eyes.
Here is a great plant analogy to help remember the phases:
new moon: plant (set) your intentions to seed.
waxing moon: the seeds will begin to grow.
full moon: what youâve set to seed has grown (come to fruition).
waning moon: you start to harvest what has grown.
dark moon: take care of your garden by pulling out weeds (take care of yourself during this time) and prepare for the next cycle.
itâs important to note that really, you can do you spell work anytime, regardless of what phase of the moon it is as successful spell work is 100% possible without the aid of the moon. however, it is much more powerful with it.

Quick things to do to celebrate Imbolc
Okay since my Yule post was popular I made an Imbolc one since most of us are still going to be locked down lol.
1. Clean and Cleanse your space I know BOO right?? But this is the holiday for cleaning and cleansing. (Even if you hate doing this, this is like the one time a year you have a reason to do it). Time for deep cleaning!! You know that layer of snowy dust behind your bookshelf? Time to open windows and tackle every corner. Scrub off that spot of dirt you have been putting off scrubbing. Time to steam and vacuum your carpets. Wash your bedsheets and add rosemary or juniper oil to the soap. Smoke cleanse your room with Juniper (or Rosemary). Sweep out old energy, old habits, unwanted spirits. Throw out things that do not spark joy. The time is upon us!
2. Bath Magic Along with cleansing your space, itâs also the time to cleanse yourself! This is the day to have a ritual bath, the type that looks instagram worthy where you have a bunch of candles and you sit in a hot tub full of colorful soap very pleased and covered in bubbles. If you donât have a tub you can make a special scrub to anoint your entire body with and rinse it off in a shower. This is the time for face masks, feet soaks, those things you glue on your nose to painfully peel off later and fill you with a sense of relief/disgust of what was dwelling in your pores all this time, skin exfoliants, bath jellies and body creams.
Tip: I like to celebrate the eves of sabbats, so I tend to do the cleaning and cleansing stuff the evening before so thereâs less of an overwhelming pressure to do everything at once. Especially since cleaning can get draining sometimes. On the day is usually spellwork, nature walks and feasting.
3. Candle Magic This is the sabbat for candles. Not just to look at how pretty they are burning on your altar rejoicing that the winter days are probably like 1 hour longer than before, but to set intentions for your dreams and aspirations!! First take a moment to meditate and ground yourself, then focus on your goals or anything you would really like to accomplish this year, big or small. When you visualizing it coming to be, then light your candle! This is also a great time for candle scrying. You can read your candle flame which can dance fiery omens of the obstacles ahead of you. Here is a helpful but general page for candle scrying.
4. Burning Bayleaves and Barrier Breaking Often when our candle spells keep going out or we receive omens that the obstacles before us are a little more difficult than anticipated, then itâs time for Barrier Breaking! Write down anything you feel is holding you back on a small piece of paper. Make sure to get a fire proof dish ready. With that paper think about the obstacles before you or anything holding you back and visualize the sensation of those obstacles coming undone or you being free from itâs chains. Make sure you hold on to that feeling as you light it on fire with your spell candle then set it aside on the fire dish to burn completely.
Sometimes this step may call for shadow work as the obstacles that can be holding us back isnât external but internal issues. You can divine with tarot cards to figure out the nature of this obstacle if you arenât aware of it consciously.
Lastly, Burning Bayleaves helps with wishes. You can burn them to help overcome obstacles or to bring luck and set intentions in your life. Just write what you need on the leaves, burn it with your spell candle and set it aside on the dish. Beware as some bayleaves have natural oil in them so they can ignite in a fiery whoosh!! That is usually good luck and shows that your intentions will have no problem being manifested, however, if you are not in the most fire safe area I would not recommend this activity. If you are comfortable doing fire magic and have a safe set up then you can partake in this tradition.
6. Cleansing ALL of your magical tools As this sabbat feels like a gentle awakening and fresh start, you can lay out all of your magical tools and give them a serious cleanse. You can play a cleansing frequency on youtube which could help or ring bells over to disperse any energy hanging on. If you have a smoke bundle or incense you can clease with that and bless your items.
7. Play some Music! Listening to music always helps to set the mood of the day. Here is a playlist for this sabbat!
8. Make a Feast So for a Feast for 1 itâs usually just like a festive dish with a side of veggies and a nice dessert. Think about what youâd like as your main dish. For this sabbat Iâve always made an Imbolc Shepards Pie recipe. Reasons being is that I lived someplace where this time of the year was blizzard season though we were halfway done with Winter. So the pie represented the top being the potato mashed âsnowâ and the meat/beans layer underneath was spicy and represented the earth stirring. (Plus its cute that itâs called Shepards pie cause there is a sheep/lamb theme going on but I digress..) Anyway I moved to England and this time of year feels like⌠very early Spring.. Like itâs not really spring spring but itâs like.. early pre-spring. (Seasons here in this climate are weird haha but the sabbats make sense here since the traditions were founded in this climate). So the symbolism of the Shepards Pie is a bit lost. However there are a lot of other options such as Cauliflower or Celeriac soup with cheese (or cheese less if you are vegan), winter onion soup, if you are a meat eater than lamb and sage stew (I feel like stews are a big theme here but it fits as itâs winter and there is that âfire in the bellyâ symbolism that fits with getting sustenance and warmth from a chalice-bowl object). Side dish can be roasted parsnips or stuffed white cabbage (it depends on the main dish). Dessert depends on if you are into cake or tarts but I always either have cheesecake or a milk sponge cake like tres leches. If you live in a snowy area a dessert I used to make would be a warm brownie with vanilla icecream as itâs like âsnow meltâ on earth with life stirring within. Etc.
I know with lockdown and such no one is going to be seeing anyone extra in their lives anytime soon and no one may have the energy to cook a lot, but here is a list of recipes with a feast mood board to check out for ideas.
Have a lovely luminous Imbolc!!
Love this thank you
