Apparently, this announcement is needed
ATTENTION SYSTEMS
A diagnosis of DID/OSDD is not going to take away ANY of your rights. Those posts you're seeing on Twitter are nothing but fearmongering.
There is no requirement to report your diagnosis at work, outside of a few key areas (healthcare, childcare, and working with other vulnerable sectors), and even in those cases, you can't be denied a job solely on the basis of the diagnosis.
A diagnosis will not cost you your license.
A diagnosis will not prevent you from owning or renting a home.
A diagnosis will not prevent you from living alone.
A diagnosis will not stop you from having children.
A diagnosis will not prevent you from transitioning.
And no, it won't stop you from buying alcohol.
People, think about the logistics of enforcing these types of things. Think about the protections in place currently (disability and discrimination laws, fair housing laws, etc). These things aren't possible. All it takes is one second of critical thinking. Why don't these things apply to other disorders? How would they enforce it? Where and when am I ever REQUIRED to disclose my medical history?
Learn your rights, and learn how to exercise them.
Stop listening to bullshit you see on Twitter.
These are rumors started in order to avoid accountability and scrutiny. Stop falling for it.
autism and schizophrenia weren’t officially separated as two different disorders until 1980 (in the DSM-III)
ADHD wasn’t an officially recognized diagnosis until 1980 (also DSM-III)
generalized anxiety disorder was introduced in the DSM-III in 1980 as well
bipolar disorder wasn’t properly identified until guess when. 1980 in the DSM-III
and guess what so was borderline personality disorder
and wow … even PTSD wasn’t proposed as a diagnosis similar to its current form until 1980
all of these diagnoses have a long and varied history of being recognized and understood under different names before that. we all generally accept this information and hold that these diagnoses are truthful, important, and necessary.
the first instance of a diagnosis with what is now known as DID/OSDD and then was called multiple personality disorder (and before that was sometimes called double personality disorder) was in 1882. in contrast the first official autism diagnosis and modern clinical observation is generally pinpointed at 1904, about 25 years later.
we have documentation of firsthand accounts of systems as far back as 1584, with very similar symptoms to what’s now called DID, and exclusively associated with trauma.
endos need to end this trend of saying that DID/OSDD “isn’t very well documented” or that “the psychology field isn’t very credible.” endos NEED to stop cherry picking the DSM-V based on only a small part of the entry, as well as outright ignoring the testimonies of our history.
this includes endlessly citing the single known study of nontraumagenic systems in existence, which is both unfinished as well as inherently biased due to the probable involvement of one of the main researchers in t*lpamancy. plus you guys know this is just a survey. it’s a fancy formalized essay like you might do for your own school papers, collecting data from random visitors to your discord server or tumblr blog. it proves nothing about legitimacy, it literally just reiterates that there are many t*lpamancers. celebrating its connection to a college that’s steeped in classism isn’t the best look either but i digress.
most egregiously you need to stop deliberately misusing and misunderstanding the neurodivergency movement for your own gain. by discrediting the research that’s gone into DID/OSDD for centuries you are undermining and invalidating every other disorder in the DSM-V. by saying that you know more than current psychologists about DID/OSDD, trauma-based disorders, and dissociation … you’re by proxy throwing under the bus all the current knowledge we have on the disorders i’ve listed above and many more.
until you do your own research and understand it for yourself you will be susceptible to repeating the same debunked talking points over and over. a very basic starting kit of DID/OSDD history (with further sources also worth noting) will be linked in the notes and other blogs are encouraged to add more resources.
i am once again imploring you to hear that the rise of modern “inclusive” plurality and multiplicity is a manufactured movement that regularly reinvents its own history to make itself look more palatable to vulnerable people, but mainly can trace itself back to the 1990s at its earliest. compare that with centuries of corroborated sources for DID/OSDD. there’s no contest.
I can't believe it's 2021 and people still think systems are a thing and not a myth people were scammed into believing was real by a dodgy psychiatrist and an unethical journalist in the 1970s
Wow okay - Wasnt expecting this coming back after so long huh! :/
Well D.I.D has been documented since the 19th century, not just the 20th.
Host is a stupid word.
“Fictive is a stupid word” went over fairly well, so let’s go again.
I see the word “host” regularly on system youtubes channels, obnoxious DID terminology lists, and all over 30-days-of-DID / system-ask type content here on tumblr. But I experience the condition more like this, from The Haunted Self, by Onno van der Hart, Ellert R.S Nijenhuis and Kathy Steele:
I’m not sure WHY the common DID online presentation of ‘host’ bothers me so much, but it really, really does :|

I’m a system that was diagnosed a few months ago and have been spending lots of time trying to get to know my alters and it’s been going really well but I’m terribly confused about how to know who my host is?? Does it change for you often? I’m pretty aware of when I switch even, my therapist has helped me identify this but I can’t seem to distinguish the host. Thoughts???
Thanks, Anon, for your question!
We just recently changed hosts from Lemon to Bryn, then to me (Jazmine). We distinguish hosts by who fronts the most, who takes on more daily activities and responsibilities, etc.
I hope this helps just a bit!

DIDECMBER DAY 2
Things you regret as a system-
Well we regret a lot of things, like dating a singlet who caused us to split more and more.
Goals as a system
DIDDECEMBER DAY 1
One of our main goals as a system is to make an educational youtube channel and a comic for good representation :)
“Some alters / parts / headmates are irredeemable”
No, no they aren’t. No part is irredeemable and you really should not be talking about alters / parts like that. It’s a really bad mindset and really disgusting rhetoric.
All alters / parts are redeemable. All alters / parts deserve to heal.
Miss me with that shit.
DIDDecember! Join in for december! Sorry this wasnt posted earlier but if you want to join in on this question for everyday then you’re welcome too! It’d be amazing! Inspired by @allofyggdrasil on instagram and their multiplicitymay tag!
