Gushed about it in the comments, but I’ll say it again all your royal au designs are gorgeous and I love all the lore hints both on the post and in the comments!~
Given the setting, I’m betting courtly love will play a huge role in Pierrot’s obsessive love. All about the yearning from afar and romanization of a person, it fits him too well… Does he have a “token” from his human crush, whether it’s something given to him or one he steals like a handkerchief or other small thing he can keep on his person at all times?
Executioner Doctor looks fantastic and I’m fascinated by the teaser of a backstory, not caring for a noble title and dedicating himself to bloody research and dispensing justice. I can only imagine a bad ending where the Monarch were to meet the business end of his axe… do your best to avoid that fate oh ruler!~
Oh Jester my beloved tyrant, he’s full of trauma and tragedy and has to mourn “her son’s” passing while not being able to mourn his own mother. The needs of his people far outweigh his own sorrows and he’ll do what is necessary for them. Just how many are in the know about the truth, is it limited to the circus members or just Ticket Taker/Bil, given their overall closeness?
My biggest question due to your comment…How did a political marriage come to be between the monsters and humans? The “Queen of Fools” no doubt holds an intense hatred for humans, to the point Harlequin is sent to do diplomatic efforts. So to either accept the suit of “her” most fated enemy means it had to be a very precarious position or Jester has some schemes prepared, no doubt waiting for the Monarch to slip up and swoop in for the victory.
So intrigued by this au and what their roles and personal stories could be~
You all are my prized treasures, thank you so much!!! ♡♡♡
The prince's guilt of his love for a wedded person will help him control himself... a bit, he will do his best to hide his feelings at first for the sake of decency. Ah, and he was royalty, too, after all! He had to set an example!
Unfortunately, he won't be able to deny his love for them any longer. Not when he passes them in the halls of the castle, walking with pride and authority even in an unfamiliar setting. And especially not when he sees the Monarch doing community work around the Kingdom of Monsters! The more good deeds the MC does, the more infatuated all of the members become. (Yes, even Jester).
He would so desperately try to keep a keepsake of them, but the only thing he has is a polishing clothe the Monarch used when they were buffing their weapons together. Though, sooner or later, Pierrot would be giving them a keepsake of his own!— a gilded rose, an invitation for a celebration of sorts.
And I'm so glad you noticed that part for Doctor!
In his original kingdom, the Kingdom of Fauna, he is the crowned prince there! (Making Doc and Jester the only Royal Bloods in the cast!) His kingdom was best known for its rich variety of rare medicinal plants and lush jungles. Sadly, one of the Human Kingdoms will find out about this. Leading to the loss of his home. He will then be taken in by the Queen of Fools— Jester's mother. Doc's mother and her were close friends.
And this is exactly the Bad Ending I was imagining!! If MC chose to rule with cruelty and the wrong choices, ie. finding out Jester's real identity on the wedding night, ignoring Pierrot's need for help, treating the monster kingdom's staff no better than animals, siding with the Human Kings...
MC will then wake up in the dungeons the next night. All of the members around them as they plan their next move in retaliating against human kind. Something sharp now pressed against their neck, never bothering to take off the mask to find out who you really were. Just another corpse for the Doctor to use to formulate a cure.
And ah, indeed... Poor Jester, at such an age, the world now rested on his back and his alone. Their people's morale was already so low. But to find out about the death of the real Queen of Fools would send them into madness. So it was better to pretend the death of himself as the prince than to see his people suffer any longer. And yes! His number one support would be Ticket Taker at that time! They depend on each other immensely. The death of Columbina was also very recent! So TT, being the Kingdom of Angels royal butler, was still grieving the loss of his princess.
OH, and for extra background content- there used to be 5 Monster Kingdoms, which are the Kgdm. of Angels (the current), the Kgdm. of Fools and the 3 others were conquered or purged) and to this day, there are still 5 Human Kingdoms, and surprise-surprise the Ringmaster rules one of them and is still alive and well!
So more props to Harlequin for going to said parties even with all the Humans present! He senses their displeasure, but he does his best to maintain his charismatic self. The MC's kingdom keeps to themselves and never opens trade to any of the other kingdoms. But thanks to Harlequin's insistence, MC finally budged and let him in one day. A start of a friendship(?)
Ah, and the Duke only knows them as the Monarch but he's ITCHING to find out who's under there!
The marriage was a desperate last call move made by Jester, for his people are in dire need of help. A plague was infecting their land, and it affected monsters immensely. What was gold and riches without people to enjoy them? It's that reason, did the 'Queen of Fools' offer 'herself' to be wedded to one of the Human Kings, but Jester plotted on killing the soon-to-be spouse sooner or later...
Thankfully, Harlequin gives the letter to the Monarch that day too.
All of them, excluding Harlequin and Ticket Taker (who only had a vague idea of who they were), would be meeting MC for the first time on the day of the wedding! I like to think that all of them would be on high alert and side-eyeing Harlequin. At least it wasn't any of the other kings chosen. The 'Queen of Fools' is thankful for the Duke to have found someone much more tolerable.
Thank you for the ask acrho!!! Hehe thank you for taking interest to the stuff I fart out ><
