The posts mostly involve taking stereotypical “native American practices” and applying them to the Quileute. Like spirit animals/spirit guides and dream catchers and other things like that.

And I just wanted to remind all y’all fic writers and headcannoners that these are very specific practices and beliefs that are sacred to specific tribes/nations.

If you do not know for sure about the explicit cultural practices of a tribe, then please don’t bastardize them simply for your entertainment. Because our cultures and histories and beliefs are sacred and they deserve respect from outsiders. Also; side note: we aren’t even allowed to share the intricacies of our cultures with outsiders anyways so...

I also wanted to address the fact that there are things that are common across many nations over the United States. Such as hair being sacred, our relationships with the land, respect for our elders and ancestors, and (now) the medicine wheel. Now, that doesn’t mean that every single tribe practices these beliefs, just that they are very common.

However, beliefs such as spirit animals and dream catchers are NOT so please stop twisting and combining our sacred beliefs just because you think it sounds cool.

Sorry for the rant but this has been on my mind for quite some time.

i actually would’ve loved a backstory for vampires, but i totally agree. make that shit magical. you think i’m reading twilight for the ill-informed scientific explanations? no. give me a fanatical backstory informed by mysticism where a transylvanian king so consumed by earthly glutton that he starves his subjects and subsequently pisses of a witch who curses him to an eternity without those things or something equally bonkers and corny and on the nose
