•Tom had very kindly asked for you and Tommy, as well as his brother Kieran to be little Sybbie’s godparents. In fact he’d called Tommy to ask, and both men hung up the phone with tears in their eyes after Tommy had unanimously agreed!

•you were nervous about the journey, nervous about how to greet Mama and Papa, Mary had called before you left home saying that your Mother was really struggling, you weren’t surprised. So were you!

•Pol had given you a sleeping draught to help you sleep, as you’d been really struggling since the news had reached you both.

•on the journey you hold Tommy’s hand the whole time. And when you get to Downton, you still cling to him. Matthew and Mary meet you at the door and take you straight to the library where tea is waiting, you see immediately that Mama is struggling. Tense as you are, you kiss her cheek but she hardly responds.

•you battle through the tea, glad to finally retreat from the library and back to your room with Tommy, glad to be away from the atmosphere.

•you see Tom again at dinner, and he’s a shadow of himself, you and Tommy talk to him and he warms up a little bit; but he’s lost in grief.

•then, after dinner, you see your little niece, darling Sybbie. A beautiful little baby! You see Sybil in her, and it makes you weep a little more, Tommy is there to help you every step of the way.

•the day of the christening dawns clear, and dressed in purple, Sybbie is baptised and passed into your waiting arms.

Anthony:

•This man is busy! But even so, he makes time to help you and support you. He will very physically be there for you to have cuddles whenever you need.

• Anthony buys you a bouquet of beautiful flowers to brighten up your day, he gets cook to make your most favourite comfort meals.

•Anthony isn’t embarrassed by periods. And if you bleed on the bed overnight, he’ll get a bath run for you and he’ll insist on stripping the bed sheets himself, before passing them over to the washer woman.

•physical affection is a huge part of yours and Anthony’s relationship: and that doesn’t stop when you’re on your period. He still holds your hands, kisses your neck, gives you head massages- not the naughty kind…well; unless you want that. He’s not afraid of a little mess.

•he offers at the end of your period, to make sure you don’t have anymore for nine months…and gets working on keeping that promise straight away!

Benedict:

•already knows you’re due on before you start- he’s got your PMS signs down to a tee!

•and he’s already been out to buy lots of new clothes napkins for you to use. As well as lots of new handkerchiefs for the crying when it starts!

• this man will insist on bathing with you, he’ll buy and use the sweetest-gentlest herbs for the bath, and he’ll gently wash you clean.

• if you get any cramps or aches and pains, he’ll massage you. He has magic hands, and when you’re under their firm ministrations, you feel momentarily better.

•he has lots of sisters, he understands what a period is, but he also has lots and lots of questions, so he’ll ask them, he’ll take a genuine interest in your responses. He just wants to know so he can help.

•he plays the pianoforte for you, deliberately getting it wrong or even singing along to make you smile.

Colin:

•comes armed with very special tea to help take the pain away. It works absolutely wonderfully!

•this boy is devilish. He knows from his experience with women, that what can also help with period pain is…doing the dirty! Colin doesn’t shy away from period sex, if you’re on board, he’s already there.

•he’ll read to you from his journals, reciting the most heavenly experiences of his travels, and he’ll lay there beside you; making plans with you; to take you to the havens he’s seen, he wants to see the wonder and awe through your eyes too.

• food. Man will buy half the food of Mayfair to make sure that you’re well fed. If you’re craving anything particular, he’ll go through hell and high water to get you it. And he’ll indulge with you, every second of the day.

-you’re Mary’s sister, young like Sybil but you’re firm friends with Lavinia.

-you’re so angry with the way that Matthew and Mary can’t accept their feelings and are actively betraying their fiancé’s with feelings for others!

-when Lavinia is taken ill you stay by her side. When she tries to break things off with Matthew, you stay beside her, holding her hand and coming up with a plan.

-when her illness takes a turn for the worse, you glare at Mary as she comes into the room- she backs out quietly. Lavinia gasps and holds your hand the whole time.

-it takes about a week for Lavinia to be able to sit up and talk again, in that time you’ve been her sole nurse. While your relationship with Mary has now soured, you’re the closest of friends with Lavinia.

-she officially breaks off with Matthew, handing him back the ring.

-you two meet up every fortnight for dinner in London together. You both end up being frequent guests at your Aunt Rosamund’s house too; once she gets to know Lavinia she really likes her!

-you’re bored with this post-war life, and Lavinia needs a break. And that’s how you come up with the plan: to travel together.

-your parents and Granny are absolutely flabbergasted, but you don’t care. You use your trust money, and the wages you’d earned by working in the War, packed your bags and left!

-you sent the odd postcard home every now and again. But you had the best time with your best friend travelling the world!

-you only came back to Downton when it was time for Mary and Matthew’s wedding. And oh boy was everyone in for a shock! You’d bobbed your hair, ditched the dowdy Edwardian frocks and were living the life of a liberated woman.

-Mary was secretly rather jealous. Edith loved the transformation in you, and made plans to join you, desperate as she was to actually have a life!

-it took time, but you and Mary patched things up. Matthew also, eventually, stopped receiving such scathing looks from you. He even ended up agreeing to a rather tasty trust fund to be waiting for you when you return (but you weren’t short of cash).

-as for Lavinia, you’d been in Rome together when a Count had fallen head over heels for her, and she was rather smitten too. The wedding was the biggest sensation of mainland Europe! Photos of Lavinia, her husband and you as part of the wedding party were splashed across newspapers.

•you couldn’t believe the peace and luxury of your life now, married to none other than Vicount Bridgerton himself. He’s beside you right now, snoring softly like a little puppy as he sleeps.

•the windows are open, and the curtains are drawn. But you can’t sleep. The peace of the normally bustling Bridgerton household was special, and you just wanted to lap it up for a while.

•but that’s when you noticed it, Anthony was shifting under the sheets, hips bucking upwards. His breathing had quickened…your own breath caught in your throat…Anthony was having a wet dream!

•you shuffled down into the bed sheets more, sliding closer to Anthony. Blindly his hands grabbed at your body, feeling along to grasp your breast; he rolled his hips against your body; moaning in earnest now.

•your heart was pounding, body warming up, arousal starting to slicken. You wanted to savour this memory, and tease Anthony endlessly in the morning.

•but then your world shattered. ‘Sienna!’ Anthony moaned her name wantonly, his hips thrusting faster, harder, more ardently. ‘Sienna!’

•you scrambled out of bed, panting, confused, hurt. But Anthony’s dream continued, he continued bucking until he moaned his completion, sighing his former lover’s name once again.

•you didn’t mind about Anthony having former lovers because he’d sworn off all other women since your marriage. But to hear him dreaming such an arousing dream about someone else, well, it was shattering.

•suddenly the house was too quiet. You hurriedly put some clothes, cloak and boots on. You needed air.

•I mean, who of the ladies of the ton aren’t in love with Anthony Bridgerton? He is THE catch of the social season.

•you can’t help but stare longingly at him every time he enters or leaves a room. Which naturally, both Lady Danbury and Lady Bridgerton notice, and they start plotting with glee.

•as a daughter of the L/N’s you’ve been friends with the Bridgerton family for years! Every summer you had visited each other at each others country estates. You’d played in the mud with Daphne, read to Eloise, learnt how to tickle for trout with Colin and Benedict, and Anthony…he’d been your first ever dance partner when you had been presented and attending Lady Danbury’s first ball of the season. What a moment that had been! The feeling of his fingers against your arm had been burnt into your brain, and you’d not stopped glowing and grinning for the whole night!

•so when you and your Mama received a card to visit the Bridgerton’s for dinner one evening, it was hardly out of the norm, it was all very exciting and pleasant.

•you arrived and saw the dining room had been set with incredible splendour; flowers, candles, crystal candelabra- suddenly you’d felt very glad that your Mama had trussed you up like a chicken in the finest silks and jewels, hair curled just the way you love.

•as the host, you would’ve expected Anthony to be there to greet you; but he was flabbergasted when you arrived- Lady Bridgerton on the other hand, swept your mother away, leaving Anthony to escort you. Oh how you loved her in that moment!

•dinner was perfect. Sat on Anthony’s left side, you could laugh and chat and things were the same as they always had been. He was your best friend, but more than that, he was the man you loved.

•from the other end of the table, your Mama, Lady Bridgerton and Lady Danbury raised their glasses to each other.

•you didn’t want the evening to end- you’d delighted to room with a pianoforte duet with Hyacinth, laughed with Eloise and listened to Colin. But most importantly, you’d been locked in a corner with Anthony, discussing books, farming developments and how the lambing season had been. Anthony found himself utterly bewildered. You’d always been so easy to talk to, but tonight you were glowing, you fit in…his mind turned to marriage.

•the next day the biggest bouquet of flowers had arrived for you and your mother, delivered by hand by none other than Anthony Bridgerton. Your heart fluttered!

•he joined you promenading, riding in your carriage with you and your Mama. You had to fan yourself the whole way, his eyes…his hands…his lips…the scent of Anthony filled the space. And you wanted more, you wanted…you don’t even know what you wanted! The promenade was wonderful, hanging onto Anthony’s arm and every word, laughing with him.

•you didn’t even notice when Anthony had managed to sneak you away from your Mama. But here you were, under a beautiful willow tree, hidden by the flowing branches.

•you couldn’t help yourself, you launched yourself at him. Wrapping your arms round his neck, and kissing him. Oh he was warm! Warm and hot and delicious! He laughed into your mouth and pressed your body back against the tree, his hands exploring your body above your clothes.

• ‘not enough!’ You moaned into his mouth, dragging his hand to between your thighs, and then grinding yourself against him. ‘I need you; I want you.’ Anthony moaned and started to touch you, hands desperately seeking your flesh beneath your dress.

•a cough broke through the dreamy state you both found yourself in. Lady Danbury stood there, grinning, and looking thoroughly impressed. ‘I take it you’ll marry the girl now Bridgerton?’ She quirked her brow with impossible preciseness.

• ‘If you’ll forgive us Lady Danbury. My fiancé and I need to borrow a carriage and get to Gretna Green.’ Lady Danbury laughed and offered her carriage. Anthony straightened your dress, before grabbing your hand and running with you to the waiting carriage.

•All your life you’d felt like an imposter, bigger than your sisters- sturdier- curvier. You felt less than, despite being physically more than. And you felt that no one ever really understood that.

•Your mother and Lady Danbury saw no flaws in you, thought you were absolutely beautiful, and kind and clever- but they believed you were simply crippling shy. So naturally, they went out of their way to help ‘bring you out of your shell’. Which yes, was as utterly hellish as it sounds! It meant rounds of introductions to eligible men, being pushed to the centre stage at all family functions, dressed in more jewels than anyone else. They really wanted to make you sparkle, because to them, you were already a diamond. You had been the apple of your Father’s eye before his death, and everytime Violet looked at you, it was Edmund she could see.

•as for the Queen? You may well not exist. She wasn’t even the slightest bit perplexed or excited by you. Which suited you fine!

•Anthony is SO protective of you, and following his marriage to Kate, she becomes protective of you too. Kate and Anthony stare at any members of the ton who even dream of thinking anything unkind.

•On his travels, Colin makes sure to collect for you the most beautiful jewellery or paintings or fabrics. Colin is tender with all his siblings, but he’s the one who listens to you most when you’re upset- he’s the one who sees it, and does his best to support you and build your confidence. Whether it’s fashionable or not to dance with your own sister, Colin will always take you for at least one turn about the floor; he can’t bare for you to be overlooked or be left ‘on the shelf’.

•Benedict is also your number one fan, at balls and social events he’ll often help you to escape- whether he takes you for a turn about the room, to get a drink, or to help you leave early if you’re just not feeling it.

•Growing up, you couldn’t help but be envious of Daphne, of her looks, her success on the marriage mart, her beautiful life with Simon. But as you grew, she showed you that real beauty comes from within anyway. Simon loves you too, finding you to be amusing, clever and witty. As for their children- well, you’re their favourite Aunt!

•Eloise was aloof as ever, she understood rationally and practically why you were somewhat on the outskirts of society. But she enjoyed not being the only one on the outside looking in; and sometimes when she needed an out you would cause a diversion, and vice versa; Eloise was an ally!

•and hand in hand with Eloise came a friendship with Penelope. You realised almost immediately that Pen was Lady Whistledown, but you never told a soul. Not Pen, not Eloise, not anyone. You were proud of Pen for using the harsh reality of a lonely life to create something meaningful; to carve her own career. Penelope was your friend, though she was Eloise’s best friend. She was at your side when Cressida cut across your heart with her barbs and remarks, and when Cressida “accidentally” cut Penelope up, spilt her drink or split her dress, you would retaliate in kind- most notably resulting in her perfectly smoothed down hair getting dislodged when she “tripped” over your out-stretched foot at the drinks table. ‘Poor Cressida!’ You had cried with devilish delight. ‘What an awful spectacle to befall you!’ The music stopped and everyone turned to look as the mighty Cressida crumbled. What an elated victory indeed.

•Francesca was in and out of your lives, going to Bath and escaping the misery of a lonely life in London. But she would send you music; and suddenly the world wasn’t so blue.

•Your favourite people of all to be around though? Hyacinth and Gregory. They were young, brains like sponges ready to learn and laugh and they love you without reservation. You spend afternoons drilling them with dances, playing archery, games, stealing cakes from the kitchens.

Imagine Gibbs seeing you in a pretty summer dress for the first time, he’s momentarily mesmerised by the sight of you, and the way the gentle breeze flutters the hem of the frock and the way the sun frames you gloriously.

Then imagine him having to clear his throat before he can speak. Those beautiful blue eyes don’t leave you. He takes the picnic basket right out of your arms and carries it for you, letting his fingers tenderly entwine with yours.

I would die of happiness for this to happen! But dessert should always be enjoyed to the max…
