I think you don't really have to be a good person to be a good dad (for a certain definition of good, after all, if you are not good yourself, you will have problems with teaching your children necessary values, and are you really a good parent without that?). Like, you could treat your children vastly different to how you treat everybody else. I cannot find real-world examples off the top of my head, but I can for sure say that being a good ruler and a good dad are not correlated. You can be a good ruler, bad dad (Peter the Great) or a good dad, bad ruler (Nicholas II). Or a bad ruler and a bad dad (looking at you, Henry VIII). Good ruler, good dad? Can't remember, sorry😅 I'm sure it's possible, though!

As for the Emperor, he is certainly a better person. I imagine that this led Erda to trust him with the well-being of their children more, thus scattering didn't happen (though I think chaos gods would still have to have tempered with the Geller field for primarchs to have warp-exposure to give Sang his wings). I think this means he leads with a gentler hand, but he still has to deal with chaos gods and that prevents him from being truly benevolent. Additionally, if Geller fields were tempered with and he and Erda had to rush to save their kids he would probably turn into a bit of a helicopter parent.

Oh, and I would like to think custodians actually like primarchs in this au and treat them as younger brothers:3

I have no set headcanon for Sanguinius's childhood with the Blood. The one I prefer depends completely on my mood at a given day (I am most often in the mood to cry and chew glass btw)

These are two of the more angsty versions as opposed to the fluffiness of the found family root. The first is what is canon, I guess, with Sanguinius playing the role of a living God to his people. He is respected and adored, but completely removed from human closeness and affection. The second is the most painful one, with Sanguinius starting out as a slave. In this version, the only mutant tribes of pure blood would tolerate is the one providing them with free labor. I really liked a headcanon I met in several fics like "Konrad and Sanguinius take revenge on Horus" by kishiriaz and "Blood in the night" by WhiteWitchDark (primarchcest warning for both if you're not into that) where Sanguinius is not even a name, just a word to call all orphans/slaves which San kept out of spite and as a pledge of loyalty to his legion.

Although one of them is much more comfortable and happy (or at least less sad), neither are truly free.

And it's all good and stuff, until you remember that Sisters of Silence exist.

So, my question is: could it be that one of the first instances of Sanguinius meeting a Null was him literally crash-landing at her feet because he didn't know he probably shouldn't fly above one?:D

P.S I do recognize that is probably not how this works. After all, Sisters of Silence don't reveal to every passerby how the Emperor looks, simply see him as himself, so they probably do not cancel all warp-abilities of all psychers, but the mental image is just too good😅
