Totally get that!! I may not really remember the lore of LL since it's been a while and my brain is scrambled eggs rn 😔

But any time I do like a mermaid AU I usually turn to selkies because I just love seals and it always makes for an interesting family dynamic! Plus baby selkies being chubby babies AND having the cute, fluffy coat is just DHUDDUBDJHFDGH

I have multiple AUs like that myself and usually the seal species I choose for dnf are Dream = Leopard Seal and George = Ringed Seal

I have like short drabbles in my Google docs for one of my AUs! It's very Song of the sea inspired with dnf having like five or six kids I think but there's also some inspiration from HTTYD with the dynamic between George and dnfbaby #1

Once I get a better writing set up, I might revisit it and definitely post it even if it ends up just being a wip
