Some comments on her record, from Vox:

In other words, she has spent the majority of her career playing politics, and trying to shape her practice in part around the political spirit of the time...which is not a bad thing. Why?

Because the political spirit of the current time, as Vox points out, is a call for criminal justice reform. Criminal justice reform was also a part of her presidential platform, which is much more recent evidence of her intentions.

When a person in any context drops a line like “Kamala Harris is a cop”, make sure you understand what they’re really saying. In this case, people are expressing frustration with her record as a prosecutor and in some sense it’s fair to be frustrated. Personally, I don’t agree with judging someone so harshly over a past that is more of a balancing act than an unleaded tough-on-crime campaign, especially when her current position is markedly different.
