I’m not updating my old posts with the new tags I. just think of this as the start of a new era. I really fcking hope I don’t get tired of the hikari/yami thing I.

I used to only care about Yugi since I’m more of a fan of season 0 + the 1st Yu Gi Oh manga, but ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Yami 🥹🥹 I haven’t thought much about how Yami’s situation affected him specifically.

I’m still not finished with it… I’m on episode 28, but I’m still stuck on the earlier episodes when Yugi gets his soul taken. The more I think about it, the more relatable Yami feels to me: He has no idea what he’s done as Pharaoh, only hearing about it from others. In terms of identity, he doesn’t have much other than Yugi. Yami usually translates to “dark” or “shadow” (from my understanding), and that’s all he knows himself as. He just doesn’t seem to have a concrete identity. Whatever his purpose was originally, I’m sure he would’ve strayed away (focused on gaining power, as we see from some of his dialogue in this season) from it anyway, since he can’t actually remember what he’s done. How could you understand a purpose you can’t remember? All he knows is that he needs to save the world. Saving the world could mean getting more power than another. In season 1, we see his morality be questioned, and whether or not Yugi could properly control him after losing the duel to Kaiba. I’m really glad we got to see something similar again in this season, even if he was affected by the Orichalcos. He still made the decision to use the seal.
