The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on December 21, 2020, co-sponsored by the United Arab Emirates and Egypt, to declare February 4 as the International Day of Human Fraternity. This day commemorates the historic signing of the Human Fraternity document by Pope Francis and Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ahmed Al-Tayeb in Abu Dhabi in 2019. To mark this occasion, Global Village had the honor of hosting Nobel Peace Prize winner and child rights advocate Kailash Satyarthi as part of the Zayed Award for Human Fraternity initiative. Kailash has been a leader in the fight against child exploitation, including slavery, and has rescued thousands of children from enslavement and ensured they receive fair treatment. Despite facing threats to his life, he has remained steadfast in his efforts and is a role model for people of all ages.

It's the sweetest start to the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. The  'Hag Al Laila' celebration is a time-honoured Emirati tradition where children go from house to house cheerfully calling out 'Atoona Hag Al Laila' meaning 'For this night, give us sweets.'
