āzero chance of escaping. you asked me to be honest.ā danyl reston x roderick fray
āI told you honesty would be helpful and that was when you were explaining the situation. Ā Is this helpful? Ā Do you really think youāre helping right now?ā Ā Roderick stared balefully at his companion. Ā āWhat ever happened to your unconquerable luck?ā Ā He sighed, glancing back towards the horde chasing them across the frozen tundra of the north: a dozen or so bloodthirsty men who screamed and brandished weapons. Ā āNo,ā sighed Roderick, resignedly, as he reigned in his exhausted horse (upon which Danyl was mounted behind him) and both dismounted. Ā āYouāre right.Ā Weāre trapped.ā
They were sandwiched between their howling enemies - and an icy precipice known colloquially as the Falls of Doom because it was a place men went to die. Ā They could not have possibly run in a worse direction.
āWhat might have been helpful,ā countered Danyl. Ā āWould have been you trusting me to guide us in a useful direction for escape. Ā Iām the one used to living on the run!Ā Not you, living in your plush palace!ā
āPlus palace?Ā Is that what you think my house is?ā
āIāve seen your house.Ā Itās a. plush. palace.Ā Mark my words.Ā You should have trusted me.ā
Roderick grinned.Ā āWhy would I trust you? Ā Youād been blatantly lying to me just five minutes before!ā
Danyl shrugged. Ā āGranted.ā
The two men turned to look towards their pursuers, again, watching them tear through the white snow, kicking it up all around them as they raced.
āI have a mad idea,ā said Danyl.
āI used to like it when you said that.ā
āListen, we have to jump.Ā Old Man Jyles fell down this precipice last winter and he made it.Ā Granted, by the skin of his teeth and heās the first person in thirty years to fall and live, butā¦weāre out to options.Ā Weāve got to jump!ā
āJump! Ā This cliff is literally called the Falls of Doom, Danyl! Ā The. Ā Falls. Ā Of. Ā Doom.Ā Itās not a complicated concept: if we fall, we are doomed.ā
āI told you it was mad!ā
Laughing, Roderick rolled his neck. Ā āWhat other choice have we got?ā
Danylās lips quirked into a wide grin. Ā āWhatever happened to not trusting me?ā
āLetās be honest,ā replied Roderick. Ā āThis isnāt even the worst scrape weāve been in this week.ā Ā He gestured towards the cliff. Ā āAfter you. Ā Youāre the lucky one.ā
Danylās grin widened. Ā āIāll see you at the bottom.ā
