Susie is homeless. Presumably ran away from home. But she's well known in the town, and if she ran away from anyone in the town people would've mentioned it at this point. She HAS to be from some other town or whatever. but waht does taht mean with the implications of Hometown being cut off from the world. Susie is the last thing from the outside world before Hometown was severed. Maybe Susie's arrival was what put everything in motion. Maybe Susie's arrival was what caused hometown to be split from the world, before more was irreversibly changed. The implications
Friend is a manifestation of loneliness / darkner of "Imaginary Friends" concept
Or just 'Imaginary Friend Theory' if we wanna keep it short. Not a new idea by any means, but I wanna write down my own thoughts on it. Just a place for me to spitball ideas, not a polished theory!!
To me, the main crux of this idea comes from Friend's appearance in this cutscene:
The room shown in the beginning is heavily implied to be Susie's old room, and it depicts the chair in the middle "becoming" Friend. With Titans being "the fear of the dark" we now have a precedent for manifestations of emotions existing, and for them to be very powerful.
I think it could make sense if this cutscene is implying that the Chair-Friend has some connection with Susie. Maybe it's as literal as Susie coming up with an imaginary friend herself, or maybe this is where the "Friend could be a manifestation of loneliness" idea comes in
With the idea of "Friends" just being the darkner manifestation/aftermath of a lightner's imaginary friend, it could explain why there's so many throughout Deltarune. Technically there's no limit to how many there could be, in theory it's practically its own species of darkner!
We also know that things imbued with the hopes / dreams of lightners can be very powerful! Spamton NEO's body and the Shadow Crystals are the main examples of this. Naturally, this could extend to the concept of an imaginary friend, and why something like that could be an intimidating boss fight.
Despite how cool I find the concept, the main problem I have with it is it doesn't explain anything about the interest in "protein". Also isn't a good explanation for why these imaginary Friends would be aggressive or "bite very, VERY hard". Though I could imagine maybe the imaginary Friends are only aggressive like that to Darkners, and the only reason Friend bit Kris in chapter 5 was because we aggravated it.
I have a cat, and lemme tell you, they hold back a lot when they bite. If Friend was able to get Kris down to 1 hp without actually killing, it gives the vibe of a cat giving a warning bite.
As for what to do with Friend being a "device" ... idk lmao. I try to focus more on what's in the game itself and don't venture too deep into gamefile stuff. Maybe its like when wild animals get captured and have radio collars strapped onto them. Gaster is keeping track of the imaginary Friend population
Is this a hot take? With the new discussion around "Who owns the hunting pack of cats" I'm realizing this may not be a widespread idea
My justification under cut:
Ok here's my evidence that the boss we fight is the Shadow Mantle, and not its holder like most seem to assume. Here's how the scene plays out in my mind:
Off screen or hidden in shadows, the Speaker is holding the Shadow Mantle. Then the Speaker lets the Shadow Mantle go and allows it to take form in the game
(I didnt wanna make a gif for this- just remember that the boss fight starts with the Mantle condensing into a single form and then laughs)
So the fight happens, and afterwards the Speaker starts talking again
I understand that it looks like the boss itself is speaking here, but since the next cut-scene is important I think the writers went with this half-screen text box so it could transition smoothly to the cut-scene. If it went to a fully black screen for the Speaker to talk and then back to the room for the cut-scene, it would look kinda weird.
From here the Shadow Mantle flies to the top left and breaks through the wall. The Shadow Mantle is found inside the chest after slithering inside, and you know how the scene plays out from there.
Again, I get this could also work as the Holder / Speaker breaking through the wall (either to open the path or to put the Mantle inside the chest). That's a valid way to read the scene, I'm not denying that! But it also makes sense to interpret the Mantle as being the boss fight itself
Also the boss sprites are called the "Shadow Mantle" in the game files, not "Eram" or "Mantle Holder"... Which is probably all the evidence I need but I digress.
Other things to aderess:
"Why is the Shadow Mantle alive in the game but not anywhere else?" My main theory is that being put inside the game allowed the Shadow Mantle to express itself in a way it can't in a Dark world (the fabric has no mouth, and cannot laugh)
"Why can the Shadow Mantle summon Friend entities?" I don't think the Mantle is controlling the Friend entities, I think the Friend things are just showing up for fun.
"Why can the Shadow Mantle shoot fireballs/bombs?" Either the Mantle is shooting weird star attacks since it can defend against star attacks, or the Mantle is using code from some existing boss in the game.
"Who is the Speaker / Eram?" Someone we haven't properly met yet. And maybe Eram isn't their real name?? I used to think it was Friend itself, and it still could be! Probably the person spreading Shadow Crystals, and if we wanna get in REAL crack-theory territory my bets are on them being the Darkner manifestation of trauma (probably Kris's trauma specifically). That or it's Seam

No one's talking about this so I will. My first reaction after seeing this was remembering each character's "reflection" in each timeline. But then I had a better idea: the episode titles.
(Example taken from the most recent Alternate episode)
Each episode is split into three titles: Season number, Part, and segment. Like the hint says, not every episode is meant to reflect their alternate timeline's version. For example, Alternate 2 Part 1 starts the whole conflict on the ship where the parasites take over Red, but in Normal timeline 2 Part 1 it's just the aftermath on Polus after killing the Shapeshifter
So let's look back, which episodes have reflections that match up? Right now I'm not sure if the clue means that the Reflected Days are two episodes that have similar plot-lines, or two episodes that work as inversions of each other. Right now, I'll just focus on finding similarities between episodes
Season 2, Part 2: Both episodes have our crew land on Mira HQ. Normal timeline has heavy emphasis on ghosts, Alternate timeline has emphasis on death and ghosts at the very end. Not perfect, but its something
Season 2, Part 3: Biggest parallel I can think of here is Purple looking for their family in the Alternate episode, and Indigo + Slate being properly introduced in the Normal episode. There's also a theme of missing family, with Purple searching for Indigo and Slate, and Yellow going out to search for Glitchy. Weaker reflection than Part 2
Season 2, Part 4, 1/3 and 1/2: Not perfect reflections since the segment sizes are a little different, but fuck it we ball... Gotta say tho, I can't think of any good similarities between these two episodes. If anything Alternate 1/3 just seems like it's trying to reference Normal Part 3
Since none of these episodes seem to line up in a way that makes me certain enough that they're the Reflected Days, I also want to point out that the Alternate timeline is still "catching up." Even tho Alternate has more total videos, the Normal timeline is currently at Part 5 and the Alternate is gonna be at Part 4 for a while (since there's gonna be 3 segments).
This leaves room for Alternate 2/3 to parallel Normal 2/2, or for Alternate Part 5 to parallel Normal Part 5. But also I haven't thought to hard about any of this yet, so gimmie a few days and I might think of a new angle to approach this
Interesting side note: While they aren't true reflections in title, Alternate 2 Part 2 and Normal 2 Part 3 end up reflecting each other very well! Both episodes have the crew ask Dr. White about an imposter cure. Both episodes have the crew realize they're missing people and go out to look for them (Green and Glitch in normal timeline, Red and Glitch in alternate timeline). Green and Red both struggle to conceal their true identities, but an interesting parallel exists with the Mira HQ team. Green reveals the HQ team's identities to the imposters, and the HQ Team are the ones who first discover that Red is an imposter. If it wasn't for the titles, this would be a strong contender for the Reflected Day
