We currently have for sale three enamel propaganda plaques depicting Mao Tse-Tung, dating from 1968.

The plaques have the Chairman's image on one side and the year 1968 and some Chinese script on the other.

These signs were hung in the streets and public places in China to promote the Chairman's image and to remind the population of his presence.

In the spring of 1968, as part of the Cultural Revolution, a massive campaign took place to promote Chairman Mao to 'god-like' status. It is likely that these plaques were part of this campaign.

A really interesting piece of propaganda history and striking graphic design that would make a statement displayed in any room, on their own or as a set.   

The circular signs are 33cm in diameter and the square sign is 35cm x 35cm.

Siesta Chair by Wesnofa of Norway, 1960s An original highback Siesta chair by Westnofa of Norway. Designed by Ingmar Relling, the Siesta chair is widely considered to be a classic of mid-century design and won a Design Award in 1965. Its enduring popularity is due in part to its comfort and the impressive strength of its lightweight frame. 

The frame of the chair is made from layered beech with a rosewood finish. It has heavy duty canvas stretched between it and a leather cushion and separate leather headrest attached on top. This is a really comfortable and beautifully designed chair that would look great in any retro or mid-century setting.

Vintage Luggage & Storage Rack circa 1950s

A vintage storage rack with corded shelf and four movable hooks. We believe it dates from approximately the 1950s/60s.

A nice industrial character piece for a retro setting. It would look perfect mounted on the wall in any hallway. Ideal for every day use in hanging up coats and bags, with a storage shelf above.

Lightweight by design, we believe that the rack is made from aluminium and with red plastic detail. The rack has two brackets which have had two screw holes added at a later date, and it can easily be fixed to the wall. The shelf is made from interwoven cream and red colour plasticised cord.

1950s Esavian School Counter Top Chest Of Drawers  

A set of school drawers made by Esavian (ESA) of Stevenage, Hertfordshire. Esavian was the trading brand name for the Educational Supply Association Ltd, a leading UK supplier of school books, school furniture and fixtures. The ESA commenced trading in 1883 at a purpose-built factory in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. The company had a forward-looking approach to modern materials and technologies.

The unit consists of 16 drawers and is most likely designed to sit on a counter-top.

The unit is of solid construction, with dovetail joins on the carcass and drawer units. The back of the unit is plywood, as are the underneath of the individual drawers. The rest of the unit and drawers are made from what we believe is beech.  

We estimate that this unit dates from approximately the 1950s, although we have not been able to find a similar style makers mark to compare with.

The unit was salvaged from a local primary school and the unit is in original condition. The unit has marks commensurate with age and previous use in a school, but overall is in good solid condition. It is painted white and where some of the paint has peeled it looks as if the carcass was painted turquoise blue before. There is a chalky blue paint on the underneath of the unit. The drawers all work nicely, but the stoppers are missing from the very top right drawer, so it pushes in a little too far. There are a few pen marks inside the drawers, with one being particularly marked. One drawer has a couple of lumps of dried glue inside. Some of the drawer fronts have sticky label residue.

A great item that can be used in its existing condition for a industrial look or easily restored with a bit of sanding.

A vintage metal coat rack with painted wooden balls. We believe it dates from approximately the 1950/60s.

This is a great character piece for a retro setting and is similar in style to the classic Eames designed 'Hang It All'. It would look perfect mounted on the wall in any hallway. Ideal for every day use in hanging up coats and bags.

The rack has two holes for fixings so it can easily be fixed to the wall.

A London Transport bus blind, dated 29/3/1977 from a SMS single-decker bus for route H1 at Harrow Weald (HD) Garage.

This is a complete linen and paper bus blind in good ex-vehicle condition and with original hems.

The black and white design with classic typography make a great statement piece in any room, either hung as a whole or cut into sections and framed .
