The most egregious sin is not the one that's seen, but the ones that are hidden from view.
Those are the ones that you will need God to tell you about. Because, He sees all things, and His Word is written for our observation: "Call unto Me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not." (KJV) Jeremiah 33:3
But the worst isn't the one that's hidden, but the one that's ignored. The one that's justified and made up; the one that people make excuses for.
So even if God warns you about that sin... - By revelation (John 16:8) - through a warning from somebody (2 Samuel 12, Isaiah 38) - through signs and visual warnings
...you'll just shrug it off anyway with a religious, self-righteous explanation. One that seems reasonable, even plausible.
youu might just be blinded by the prince of this world or by your pride...
...so much so that, even the warnings of God will rather offend you instead of just leading you to repentance.
you will claim that if you feel good about it, then it's God. if there's love towards sin, comfort in correction, and soft-spoken rebukes, then it's God. this is what the blind and prideful think correction/conviction is!
conviction does not come to bring peace, but a sword. Jesus doesn't come to bring peace, but a sword. Therefore when He comes to convict this place of sin and of judgement, He comes with a sword.
The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God, which is sharper than any double edged sword, dividing both the spirit from the soul; discerning the intentions of the hearts of men. Therefore, when He convicts of sin, it's not pretty.
He doesn't come with a pillow, a comfy cover, and some food to comfort you with; He comes with a sword and with piercing indictments to convict you of sin and to lead you to godly repentance.
The thing which He did on the Cross should prove and give you a glimpse to how much He cares about your soul.
We often use that as an excuse to say 'God does not care about whether or not I do [xyz]' but He does.
"These things hast thou done, and I kept silence; thou thoughtest that I was altogether such an one as thyself: but I will reprove thee, and set them in order before thine eyes." -Psalms 50:21-
Seek the LORD while you can still find Him. Repent! God bless you.
