Currently building the systems and components I need for the mech game and wondering how much I'll need to cut not for lack of ability in my part but due to simply not working well for the game

Like on a core level I don't know how fun "War Thunder but with Armoured Cores"/"Armoured Core with War Thunder's damage model" would be to play for most people, because even if you fixed/excised all the problems War Thunder has*, you're still left with a shooter where:

Your maximum aim speed is capped/determined by your mech, which only works in War Thunder because it's an arcade simulator (and because no one moves faster than 100km/h), and only works in Armoured Core because the FCS handles half the aiming for you

Sometimes you'll shoot someone and it'll do literally nothing, because the round/laser/etc straight up can't penetrate that amount of armour

If one of your systems/modules is damaged enough, it stops working and becomes useless for the rest of the mission

*terribly designed maps, some tanks having "upgrade" options that are straight up worse than the stock option 90% of the time, CAS, an unforgivably and indefensibly terrible grind intended to make you fork over $80 usd to skip to a good tank, terrible UI that functions differently depending on whether you win or lose the match, etc

#random robot rambles #I do already have ideas/plans for how to deal with most of these issues (including ones not mentioned)#(and except for the third one because I want that to be a key part of how missions work)#but the issue is that I don't know if they'll be enough

Reading through youtube comments sections is a great way to completely skew your perception of how mind numbingly stupid the average person is

for context: I just read through a comment thread where someone more or less spent thirty or so comments trying to push forward the argument that it's immoral and irresponsible for anyone with a platform or any kind of significant following to criticise things made by bad people

#doesn't matter what kind of video it is or what the subject is

once again, I am always right about youtubers

#though in this case it was somewhat of a gimme because the guy's a 40k youtuber #which instantly boosted the likelihood of him being some kind of shithead by a factor of something like twenty-seven #going to have to reevaluate another youtuber I occasionally/infrequently watch who's done a few collabs with the guy #(by which I mean had the guy guest on his podcast)#since he seems largely cool about trans people and other issues #but collabing with a guy who seems to regularly guest/interact with people who are just. incredibly racist and ableist and transphobic #is. not encouraging.#though to be honest the guy was already very ''seems like that kinda guy but gets a chance because he said a few things that seemed cool''#so maybe I just need to go off my initial reads when it comes to youtubers instead of giving them chances #unless they have something somewhere where they make their stance on those topics very clear

Perhaps watching i Saw the TV Glow almost immediately (2-3 days) after watching TADC e9 was not the greatest idea.

every time this debate gets brought up i laugh because the forerunner lore is one of the coolest parts of the series and some chuds just want to wipe it all away just bc they have a grudge against game studio leadership from 14 years ago and because their Lord and Savior Marty (who is a complete douchebag on many levels) said it was canon (it was only ever a concept for Halo 2)

People who don't know jack about mechs/mech design should shut the hell up about mechs.

I just saw someone call the Empulse mech a ripoff of ED-209 from Robocop.

#it very much is not #it's not a particularly original style of mech (it'd be fair to say it looks very reminiscent of a lot of generic mobile-game mechs)#but if it's a ripoff of anything it'd be halo's mantis

For those wondering: the game looks Fine.

By which I mean it appears to be a C/B- tier arena shooter with splitgate's gameplay and a copy of titanfall's wallrun, with mechs bolted on the side in the form of halo-style power weapon spawns except instead of guns and swords and hammers it's a worse halo 4/5 mantis you control in first person.

#I genuinely think the in-development indie dev'd spiritual sequels and titanfall clones (diesel knights and shatterrush) look better
