You know what grinds my gears? "Sulking in the Hideout". Why does even the game itself treat Pocket like they're acting irrationally or childishly for the way their life has gone along with half the cast? Pisses me off. C'mon. Hiding in the Hideout is right there.
I hadn't really thought about this before. I think in part it's just Valve being glib like they are about everything, because there is something sort of darkly funny about everyone being so dismissive of Pocket nearly dying to an assassination attempt paid for by their own parents. But yeah, I'm not sure sulk is the word I would use? It does mean sullenly holding a grudge and being withdrawn, but it's so often used as a 1:1 synonym for pouting that it does give it a more childish vibe, which can def feel like the game telling us these characters dismissing them as nothing more than a pouty trust fund baby are right to do so.
*banging pots and pans* Exploring how characters relate to each other is character writing. Yes, this includes shipping and smut. No, it doesn't have to include either. Very simple actually!
We have got to stop framing our oppression in ways that promote the idea that other people cannot relate to our struggles. Not only does it isolate comrades in the struggle, it actively diminishes recognition of other struggles--often including those even more horrific than what we are at risk of. And this happens especially between Gay and Black struggles.
"when have straight people ever had to check what states were safe for them?" Sundown towns are still a thing. Starlight tours. What states have abortion access? What states have open carry? What states have stand your ground? What states have 3-strike rules? Women, people of color, disabled people, immigrants, and more have had to be abundantly cautious where they travel to. Straight trans people have much more travel risk right now than gay cis people.
It's a new iteration of the same tired question: "imagine if straight people weren't allowed to marry" interracial marriage in the US is younger than my parents. We disgrace people of color by forgetting their history and contemporary struggles, and we abandon queer people of color, Black queer people, by segmenting their overlapping fights.

Every time an author reassures readers that the smut is skippable I sigh a disappointed sigh. This is not a reassurance. Why would anybody who likes smut want to read smut that was only included as an afterthought and has no impact on the narrative? Insulting. Just don't write it at all if you're not going to make it matter.

Feeling a little nerfed in my ability to participate in Deadlock fandom when 90% of it is still on the Nazi pedophile election meddling AI-plagiarism and revenge porn site. Like man, I know Tumblr shit the bed in 2018 and bsky is suffering from "nobody wants to join until more people are there but there won't be more people there until people join" and Pillowfort the same problem times 100, and I try to be not judgy about it, but like. Man.
I'm tempted by the FOMO too. It sucked to leave thousands of followers! I know people who left behind tens of thousands. The internet got suddenly way quieter, and sometimes that's good, but sometimes it feels TOO quiet after the constant interaction. It sucks now to know there are all kinds of cool things I'm not seeing and people I'm not talking to because I'm just not there.
But Elon became a trillionaire this year. X is part of that net worth. You are the product he has sold to advertisers to become that. Also, did I mention the Nazis? Stuff doesn't change unless you agree to change it, and it's genuinely so disappointing how many people refuse to budge. Get off of X, seriously.
