SHOUT OUT TO EVERYONE WHO STILL TRIES TO GET BACK INTO THE SWING OF THINGS AFTER DEPRESSION HIT THEM HARD. THERE ISNâT ENOUGH RECOGNITION FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO KNOW THAT THEYâRE GOING TO LOSE INTEREST AND MOTIVATION AGAIN BUT PUSH THEMSELVES TO DO STUFF ANYWAYS. YOU ARE FIGHTING A DAILY BATTLE WITH YOUR OWN THOUGHTS AND YOUâRE STILL COMING OUT ON TOP, YOUâRE ALL BRAVE AS FUCKÂ

They are making audio and digital books available now too!!
I found a hardback printing of the Voynich Manuscript on here. This place fucking rocks.
Hey Iâm so excited to see this on my dash! I work at an independent bookstore in NY and we were hit insanely hard by the pandemic, like so many other indie bookstores across the country. Bookshop has literally been helping us to keep the lights on. You using storesâ affiliate links to bookshop (you can support my store here) or just browsing it on your own directly impacts our ability to remain in business. Overall Bookshop has raised over 10 million dollars for independent bookstores across America. This site really works!
If you want to buy books from the comfort of your own home without supporting Amazon, please please consider using Bookshop! We are all so thankful for your support!
We can change this horrible construct.

I counter you with
âPublic libraries are such important, lovely places!â Yes but do you GO there. Do you STUDY there. Do you meet friends and get coffee there. Do you borrow the FREE, ZERO SUBSCRIPTION, ZERO TRACKING books, audiobooks, ebooks, and films. Have you checked out their events and schemes. Do you sign up for the low cost courses in ASL or knitting or programming or writing your CV that they probably run. Do you know they probably have myriad of schemes to help low income families. Do you hire their low cost rooms if you need them. Have you joined their social groups. Do you use the FREE COMPUTERS. Do you even know what your library is trying to offer you. Listen, the library shouldnât just exist for you as a nice idea. Thatâs why more libraries shut every year
If this post persuades even one person to get a free library account and use it, my time on this hellsite will not have been spent in vain

you know whatâs a trope that never gets tired is when theyre bouncing around in the plot and suddenly an important name crops up- itâs blorbo bleebus. and some dude is like who the hell is blorbo bleebus. and we immediately cut to our new friend blorbo bleebus pulling the most absolutely buckwild shit youâve ever seen
enhanced edition of this trope is when they cut to blorbo bleebus doing something entirely contradictory to how they were just introduced, like "i know a professional, someone discreet who can handle things quietly" cut to blorbo bleebus in the wildest fucking bar brawl you've ever seen, screaming their own name and stopping to down shots while still holding some dude in a headlock
that is hilarious!
@why-animals-do-the-thing is this owl actually happy?
Multiple people with professional bird experience that Iâve spoken with believe so! One noted that a some birds get so âinto the scritchâ that at times they will lose their balance or cease being aware of their surroundings (as you can see in this video) but that we donât really know why. It looks like this owl was having a super good scratch, ended up leaning a little farther back that the human was in a good position to support, lost his balance, and recovered. Itâs all good and yes, actually cute.Â
(Itâs worth noting, of course, that this is an interaction that can only occur because the person has a strong history with the owl and a lot of previously developed trust. This isnât something you should ever consider doing with an owl you donât know and havenât been trained to work with.)

As someone with years of experience with screech owls in particular, yes this is happy behavior. An upset/threatened owl would NEVER act so relaxed like that. And yes it is probably because that person has a very strong connection with the bird
Why is it so hard for media to show Jews just being casually Jewish in their lives? We deserve better representation than the obligatory âcharacter announces they are Jewish in the Christmas episode which is then never further addressedâ. I want to see Jews saying brachos and wearing kippas/tallasim/tzitzis and kissing their mezuzahs and using Jewish expressions in their speech. There are so many things that can be done but arenât and itâs so frustrating.
The purpose of child hero stories is not "this universe is abusive toward children and no one has child age labor laws" it is that they are stories written for children so that they can see themselves overcoming challenges and defeating monsters.
Dorky but very fun things to do to fall back in love with your writing/story:
Create a mood board of how you think your characters would dress. Bonus points if it's the opposite style of how you usually do.
Put your characters into Artflow and see them come to life through AI!
Make a playlist for the movie adaption of your book from the opening sequence to the end credits.
Write a letter between two characters (if you handwrite it, try to come up with unique handwriting for each character)
Create a manifestation book! I have a ring-bound book in which I write all my writing goals and record any milestones. Feel free to go wild with this and dream big as no one has to see it! Buy washi tape that fits your book's theme.
Go to a pizza store or Starbucks and order using your character's name. I like seeing how close they are to the spelling on the receipt, or hearing them call out the name across the store!
Pretend that there's such a thing as the Book Oscars and pick out what you would wear to it and practice your acceptance speech as the best book of the year in your genre.
Create an Instagram for your characters and post photos you think they would post. (Hint: use Unsplash to find aesthetic royalty free photos)
Play Akinator (basically a 20 questions game) and find out which existing character is most like yours.
Splurge on your birthday and commission an artist to draw your characters. It's amazing to see them come to life!

Spring in my heart đˇ
There was a popular post that went around two years ago that said something along the lines of "we have to be willing to look paranoid--it's better to be overly-cautious than to be careless and prolong the pandemic!"
It's pretty much the only thing holding my sanity together now that it's year three of the pandemic, everyone's decided it's over even though it's still killing people, local data suggests my area is under-reporting new cases, and people keep telling me VERBATIM that I'm being "overly cautious" and "kinda paranoid."
The 7-day global death average on March 1, 2020, when everyone was terrified and started shutting everything down, was 75.
The current 7-day global death average as of today is 2,283 according to the updated graph I just looked at.
But sure. It's "over."
