The area where I am standing is pretty interesting. Its one of the highest and most westward pieces of rock in the central Wasatch. Opposing this area is the lone peak cirque which channels south winds building from the Utah Valley 6,200 feet below and blasts them west through a gap in the rock to which I am facing. With limited space to move as storms press eastward. Air, moisture and tiny particles of rock caught between the flows swirl in a torrent carving out peculiar shapes in the granite like you see in the sandstone of southern Utah. But this is quartz monzonite (close to granite) ... A very hard igneous stone much stronger than sandstone.
