             On the plus side,  they are on a roof;  better helicopter access,              in the event that Tony needs a medical evacuation.

             But  bullets are flying all around them.   It’s dangerous,              however,  it’ll only be a matter of time before Connor spots an              opening.   Processes and calculations fire off so quickly time              seems to stop for him.

             THERE,  his opening!

          ❝ Stay here,  please. ❞

             Without giving anyone time to protest,  Connor darts out from              behind their cover.   The deviant shoots at him,  Connor              dodges his bullet.   The next bullet comes from behind---              he doesn’t catch it in time.   It burrows through him,  the force              sending him stumbling forward.   No.   This isn’t right.   The              bullet came from a human’s weapon.   Caught in the              crossfire,  he fears.   The misstep leaves him without enough              time to dodge the next bullet that comes his way.

             For a moment,  he feels the briefest desire not to DIE              himself---  the next instant,  there’s NOTHING.

             Oh.   That ‘someone’ sounds awfully charged.   With              accusation?   Tony doesn’t trust him?   Understandable—              yet the realization leaves Connor feeling an unsavory              way;  crestfallen,  he might say,  if he knew which word              to match to the sensation.

          ❝ My actions—  my words—  aren’t driven by will. ❞             Or choice,  or want,  or anything else like that.   What             he wants doesn’t always matter,  if he can’t figure a             way to twist those wants into actions that further the             mission.    ❝ I’ve been as honest with you as I can be. ❞

             The android frowns,  taking a slight step away.   More             and more lately his reports to Amanda seem to end              with her being less than happy with him.   Now Tony              too seems more displeased than usual.

             Apparently,  not only can Connor not satisfy everyone,              lately he can’t satisfy ANYONE.

          ❝ I know it must not seem like it at times to you, ❞    he begins,  almost as patient as ever  ( there may be a little strain in his tone ) ;  quiet and UNASSUMING as Connor tends to be when threat-level is low,  he has more than enough information programmed into him regarding the management of threats that he’s entirely capable of becoming the most efficient killer in any given room at any given time,  though he doesn’t necessarily want to use those skills to their fullest extent.
