ETA: The lead article quotes someone saying that the tax won’t lead to more available affordable housing, just more luxury housing. But that’s only true in the short term. In the long term, developers will be disuaded from building housing that doubles as a safety deposit box, and thus will be incentivized to build housing that will actually house year-round residents - which will almost certainly be more affordable.
