I have a decent amount of oc creators blocked on sight because I sincerely dont understand nor support the mindset of creating ocs for a media you claim to dislike. That's just annoying to say. Things have more or less calmed down now, so I feel the need to ask: why is anyone still boycotting idv?
Genuinely. I mean no malice in asking. Why?
This controversy started over a false rumor on Weibo that people had been fired and replaced with AI. This is now proven false and also impossible to happen (due to it being illegal to do so in China), so what's the issue now? Nothing in-game has been proven to be made with AI. Artists and voice actors came forward to say that costumes and designs aren't AI-generated, and neither is any official artwork. I don't even understand asking for a statement at this point because what would Joker Studios say? They didn't do anything that isnt industry standard. They also never make statements on matters that dont affect people's money or the status of the game, and they have honestly been careful not to use GenAi on anything people pay for.
I don't mind if folks are anti-ai. Personally, my thoughts on the matter are too nuanced and arent relevant to include in this post. I just think that, if you are 100% anti-ai and make no exceptions, you should find a different game to play. Again, I mean this with zero malice. "NetEase" just isn't going to never use AI again, because that is vague and also isnt possible.
I would like to add on that continuing to speak positively on idv gives them money, as investors look at social media buzz to decide if a product is worth investing in. Boycotting requires complete separation, and if you cant do that, just dont bother cuz it doesn't make a difference to their bottom line.
they have used ai, though im unsure if it replaced artists. They also used ai in a recent promo. And it would be nice to get an actual statement acknowledging the usage of ai, which is what most (me included) are most upset about
I never denied that they used AI in promotional material, and am well aware that that happens. However, I did state that I havent seen proof of AI usage in game, which is what I personally care more about (as it regards people's money).
My point from the post stands. What do you want Joker Studios to say if they make a statement? They're not going to stop using AI. Its genuinely impossible for them to, due to corporate demands, and AI marketing being industry standard. So what's the plan if a statement never happens?
Also, I stated in the post that it's illegal in China for workers to be replaced with AI. This isnt speculative - it never happened.
