Learning Curve âˇÂ Wally&Guzma
 wiltedguzmania:
Head cocking to one side, Guzma lets the silence hang in the humid air for a few moments. Theyâre not exactly alone, plenty of grunts milling around the area. It doesnât escape him just how quiet theyâve gone. Thereâs a very distinct air of people trying to pretend theyâre not listening, not hanging on every second, waiting to see whatâs going to come next.
Because no one walks into Po Town talking that kinda shit.
But this is Archieâs kid, and it looks like a strong breeze would probably knock him over. So punting him straight over the wall is probably off limits. Honestly, Guzmaâs a little impressed. The kid sure doesnât look like the type to have any kind of mouth on him. Definitely not the sort of person he expects out of Aqua, but apparently heâs got nerve.
Still, he canât just let that fly. Even if there wasnât a crowd. No one gets away with that. So he tips his head back and laughs. Thereâs a few almost nervous chuckles from surrounding grunts. It grows louder and more confident. Guzma brings his hands together and it stops as he turns a grin toward Wally. âDamn, I like you. Youâve got guts, kid. Dumb as shit, but gutsy. So fine. Iâll prove it.â
He takes a few quick steps forward and grabs Wally by the collar of his oversized coat, yanking him down. âHow dâyou think I should do that, huh? Could kick your scrawny ass right here. Send you cryinâ back to Archie. Guess he wouldnât like that much, yeah?â
Humming like heâs thinking, he leans back a little, eyes flicking over Wally critically. After a moment, he shakes his head. âNah, canât do that. Youâre my guest here, ainât that right, boys?â
Thereâs a chorus of responses from the nearby grunts. Guzma makes a show of straightening out Wallyâs jacket. âCanât kick your ass to the curb before I even give you the grand tour. Thatâd just be rude. But I know, it must be so hard for someone so much taller than me to get a good angle on this place, yeah? Gotta show you the place from my perspective, yâknow?â
And he drives a fist hard into Wallyâs stomach, aiming to wind him before locking an arm around his neck, pulling him into a headlock. âThere, ainât that better? Now câmon, Iâve got so much to show you. Letâs go.â
Okay, so he proved it. Wally canât say he didnât ask for this because he literally did. Somehow he didnât quite expect to get hit for his trouble though. He doesnât think heâs ever been hit before, actually, not seriously. There were never many kids around to roughhouse with in the first place growing up, and those that were around knew better than to play with Wally like that. (No one wanted to be the reason the sick kid keeled over.)
He has to say though, the novelty of it doesnât quite outweigh the unpleasantness. Guzmaâs fist connecting with his belly sends the air rushing out of him in a shriek. Itâs not even painful, even with an accompanying ache starting to spread through his abdomen, so much as it just feels like heâs lost all the breath in his body at once. The combination of the arm cinching shut around his neck with a jaunty little quip-
âGotta show you the place from my perspective, yâknow?â
Sends him squirming away in panic because wow, this guy might actually just choke him out, and Wally doesnât really trust that they have any kind of doctor around here.
How does everyone else do this, just speak their mind and stand their ground about it? The handful of times Wally has tried have all ended... poorly. (He might, possibly, benefit from picking his battles better.) Malva made it sound so easy... But Malva also has the ability to back it up if she wants to, Wally doesnât.
 Alright so... why doesnât he?
It hits him, suddenly, that he has an opportunity here. He can take his lumps from Guzma and say nothing more about it. Or... he can do what he supposedly came here to do, and learn. Suddenly Guzma and his entire (kind of shitty) town looks much more useful.
âTeach me how to do that!â He requests (itâs a demand) as soon as heâs gotten far enough back from Guzma that Wally doesnât think he can grab him again that quickly. He doesnât sound great there's not a whole lot of air left in him to talk with at the moment, and he knows heâs going to be feeling that for a while. It probably doesnât instill the greatest confidence that he can actually attempt what heâs asking for. âTeach me how to fight! Leader Archie sent me here to train, right? So teach me how to fight! Oh, um. Please?â Itâs probably a good idea to remember his manners at this point, lest he get sucker punched again.
(Heâs also not exactly telling the truth, but itâs not like Guzma needs to know that.)
