TW: ABUSE
â Billy has been abused for as long as he can remember at the hands of his father. At first it started off small: yelling, spanking a little harder, even a shove every now and then. When it began, Billy thought it was his fault, that he had done something to bring it upon himself. It only seemed to happen after he did something. That was until one night when Neil came home from a particularly bad day of work. Billy hadnât done anything wrong. He hadnât even had the chance to greet his father when Neil pushed Billyâs mother out of the way, causing her to hit her head hard against the wall, and made a b line for Billy. It was the first time he hit him anywhere but the butt. Billy was eight. It only got worse from there and the older that Billy got, the more he internalized it, turning the pain into anger that he could direct at other people. â Billy loves to surf, not that thereâs really anywhere for him to do it in Indiana, or Hawkins especially. Surfing is connected to one of his core memories, one of the best and only memories that he has left of his mother when life was still good. That was before she left though, before things got dark. Surfing makes him feel like heâs flying, as if for that brief moment heâs riding the wave, heâs invincible and not even his father can touch him. It reminds him of his mother and always puts a smile to his lips when heâs coming out of the water. â Billy has never actually been in a stable or loving relationship. Growing up, he didnât have any role models for that sort of thing, only really being exposed to his parentâs relationship before his mother left and his father got remarried to Susan Mayfield. Not that he would ever admit it, but heâs scared to actually commit and open up to anyone romantically because he thinks that theyâll just end up leaving him too. So instead, he plays the field, only sticking around long enough to get what he wants before heâs gone again and pretending like the previous person never existed. â The last memory that Billy has is walking out the front door of his house towards his 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, ready to meet Karen Wheeler for private swimming lessons at the Motel 6 like they had agreed to that afternoon. Billy was usually indifferent towards the older women, watching as they gawked at him while he worked his lifeguarding shift at the Hawkins Community Pool, but Karen Wheeler had been different. Not only was she the hottest mom in all of Hawkins, I mean come on she was Nancy Wheelerâs mom, but there was something about her approach that was less direct and caught his attention. Private lessons were the least of his concerns that night, anticipating something else entirely to happen.
