I'm 19, a collage student and my pronouns are she/they!

This page is about studying, a mix of my own stories and future crashouts along with helping others with tips and how to navigate certain feelings when it comes to doing work!!

I'm hoping somethings may resonate with people especially those who go through similar experiences in education, like being neurodivergent and feel like their behind in education! :)

I have dyslexia and sometimes doing course work is difficult for me to understand certain material and to articulate what I want to write, so here are some tips that have helped me with writing essays and doing school work in general!! :)

☆ When writing essays and there's different areas you need to talk about chunk it in paragraphs and then bullet point within in that! For example;

Paragraph 1: Topic 1

- briefly mention this

- Talk about blank

- summerise this article

It dose really help when you're first making your document and if you have multiple topics you need to mention, its so much easier to to do this without having to go back and look at the assignment summary given by your school/University/Collage.

☆ The links to websites you use for your assignment add them to the document along the way when writing as its easier when you need to write your bibliography. If you're struggling with writing the bibliography a website that helped me is 'Cite to Write'. It breaks down everything and shows you how to write it depending where you found your reference such as books and websites. It also helps if there isn't certain details you can't find such as; the date it was published, the writer and the publisher.

☆ Your school/University/Collage dose give good resources for writing but websites that dose really help me especially with brief reading and summaries are; EBSCO and JSTOR. EBSCO is genuinely one of the best websites for assingments as they have everything! If you are taking a social science this will be your best friend, it covers everything for theroys, case studies and background research for it. JSTOR is really good for finding books in a online form especially for history, politics and theoriests books! EBSCO dosent require a login for your school as its a free site, however JSTOR dose as its used for academics!

☆ Give yourself breaks! It may feel like if you stop you won't do the work again but a short enough break is good for you to catch your breath, get water or a snack to get you back into the flow of doung work! I useally take a 20 minute break as thats enough time for me to doomscroll a little and get a snack.

☆ A thing I've noticed is if you have dyslexia you are more likely to have headaches while doing school work so my biggest advice for this is if your head hurts so much just stop take a break and if your head is still sore it's probably best for you to stop for a few hours. Dyslexia makes your brain work 10x harder as its more difficult for you to understand certain material and to put your thoughts into writing. The best thing to do is take yourself first rather than push yourself to try and get work done!

Well done to those who have passed their exams along with getting into University or Collage of their choice! To the people who didn't pass their exams or never got into University it is never to late to try again. It is completely ok to re-do a course or re-take exams to get into University/College, it's never the end. It may feel like you're falling behind or won't get the same experiences of those who are going to University/Collage this year but everyone has their own experiences. It may take another year or two and that is totally ok! It's good to remind yourself that things take time and to surround yourself with people who are there to support you with whatever you decide!!
