Pairing: Katsuki Bakugo x OC
Series synopsis: class 2a & 3a have been paired together for their midterm projects, with 3a being their student mentors. Katsuki gets paired with Eijiro’s younger sister Yumi, but she is nothing like he remembers and now he’s not sure how to feel about her.

Had it been a couple years ago, Katsuki might have blown the door down after the first minute of silence from the other end—how dare they not answer the door, don’t they know how rude that is?—but he likes to say that he has calmed down since his first year at UA. Partially because he has learned that not every situation deserves a full crash out, but also because if he gets too excited his heart pounds painfully against his ribs and he’s reminded exactly why.
So he waits a whole second longer before knocking a little harder.
He knows someone is in the room, he can hear the murmur of a voice and if he’s not mistaken, the soft strumming of a guitar. The noise stops on the other end and after a couple seconds the door opens. The girl that he expected to be on the other side isn’t who answers the door and he has to do a double take at the plaque beside it to confirm that it says Kirishima Yumi. Sure enough, this is her room.
“Can I help you?” She asks, her voice a little deeper than Katsuki remembers, but then again, he only heard it once before.
“Dude, you got my sister.” Kirishima complained, looking at the paper Katsuki held with her name typed across it. “This project would have been so easy if I got her.”
“The pairing is random.” The blonde reminded his friend. Even if it wasn’t, he was sure Mr. Aizawa wouldn’t have made it that easy for Kirishima. This wasn’t supposed to be easy for any of them.
Mr. Aizawa thought it would be a great idea to pair 3a with 2a as class mentors. This wasn’t supposed to take from the mentorship that they did with pro hero’s, but to help them “become better students”.
And what are the odds that Katsuki gets Kirishima’s kid sister.
Though, that’s not an accurate description anymore. She lost most of the plumpness in her cheeks, the angles of her face becoming more pronounced, she is slightly taller, and most surprisingly—her hair isn’t red anymore.
After the first time Katsuki had gone to the Kirishima household, he knew his friend dyed his hair, and that it was naturally black, because he had seen that Kirishima’s parents had black hair. There had been another flash of red in his memory, one that belonged to a smaller girl with shorter hair. She had only said one word, “hello”. It was soft and shy and the only thing she said to him since he’s been over to Kirishima's.
Now she stands with her arms crossed over her chest, shoulder leaning against the doorframe, blocking his view from her room. Not that he wants to look inside or anything. Her eyebrow raises and he realizes that he hasn’t answered her.
“I’m gonna be your mentor for the month.” She frowns and he wonders if she is even aware of their project. Then she has two moments of realization, her surprise evident in her raised brows and wide eyes.
“Oh, yeah. I didn’t even read the paper before putting it in my bag.” She laughs like her clear indifference isn’t a big deal. Suddenly, she smiles real wide. “How lucky am I? I got one of the big three as my mentor.”
Katsuki tries not to bristle at the title. Sure he is proud of himself for even earning it, but hearing it from her lips—in that tone—doesn’t feel right. “If you’re going to mock me, I’ll just switch with your brother.”
Her face blanks and then after a second she gasps. “Oh, you’re Eiji’s best friend!”
Not the best thing to be recognized as but then again, Katsuki is hard to please. “Yes. And you should feel lucky to have me as your mentor.” Irritation slithers along his ribs. “I’ve held the number one spot in the sports festival for three years in a row.” Yumi gives him an unimpressed smile. His eyes twitch. “I don’t have to defend myself to you.”
“You’re right.” She nods slowly, thoughtful. “Did you have wisdom to impart on me, or…”
His jaw tightens. “I just wanted to…” What did he want to do? Why exactly did he come over here? He clicks his tongue. “I just wanted to see if you were aware of our situation.”
“Situation.” She says slowly, nodding again, smiling this time.
Katsuki breathes in deeply, lifting his chin. “Yeah, that’s it. So–bye.”
He turns and hears her laugh. “Bye Bakugo.”
