Takumi listens to Eito quietly. He knows it would be easy to just go along with what he was saying. To just agree that Eito was the one with the potential to hurt him. But that wasn't true, was it? After all... Takumi was the one that was from the future. The one that would be more likely to try to shove Eito into a box and impose his own beliefs on him. It's what he had done to all of them. Especially Eito and Nozomi. Takumi knew that he wasn't meant to be close to people. He lost that right the instant he used his redo ability. And yet... he keeps doing it.

"Aotsuki... Enough." He mutters it quietly. He listens to him berate himself. Talk about how Takumi can't stand to be around him. Meanwhile, the red head doesn't even know how he feels. He doesn't hate Eito anymore. He cast that hate off the second time he had spared his life. Even if he would never trust him again.

But what he says after that... Makes Takumi even more confused. What he was saying made it sound like... Like Eito loved him. He couldn't imagine that. WHY? How could that be? Maybe it was all because of him letting him back on the team. A long time ago, Takumi would have been happy to hear those words but... Now it just makes his chest hurt. Those feelings of his still lived in his heart. And now, without the hate chaining them down, he can feel them.

Takumi loved Eito. But was that really okay? Was it okay to love THIS Eito when he had loved a version of him that never existed? Even so... Takumi let his hand drift to Eito's. He had bandaged the other one. This one was still gloved so... Maybe touching it was okay. Even though he had just kissed him, he still... Expected Eito to move away.

"I don't know what's right anymore." He confesses. "Maybe I never did. If you want someone to teach you, I'd be a rotten choice." Takumi had killed and sacrificed others. He had hurt people. He didn't know right from wrong either. "You weren't wrong to hate humans, Aotsuki. Us existing at all taught me that. But... I know we have to keep fighting for them. That's the only way we'll ever have a chance to live peacefully." He wanted to believe that. He really did.

"I'm the one being selfish. I kissed you while you were vulnerable. I probably... Don't deserve you at all." Being a murderer in the TRC wasn't real. His actions in the previous 100 days were erased. The betrayal in this timeline had more or less been forgiven. "You cut out your eyes and I... I never really understood how hard things were for you. Or that you would need to take such... Drastic measures."

He had been blinded by his own heartbreak. Eito had been twisted beyond belief but.... Maybe Takumi shouldn't have written him off like he did. Still... It didn't matter anymore.

"Did we ever know what was right and wrong before we truly began to live?" Eito tosses the question out rhetorically, but he can't help but wonder. All of those memories may have been fake, but they still shaped the people that received them into who they are. Decided their morals, what they held dear, what they wanted to protect.

Eito himself knows he was made to save the "earth," the obsession he has with the thought of it's beauty and nature needing to be protected from World Death must have been what was intended to shape his own morals, despite not having seen a plant native to Earth in his life. The fact of the matter is that something beautiful, the planet that gave birth to humanity, was being destroyed and it was Eito's duty to save it. Were that all there was to his memories, he'd probably march forward with the rest of the SDU in the same goal.

But, something happened to Eito when he was fed those memories that entirely flipped his intended purpose. Now his role as a guardian of earth and defender of it's blue moon like his very name implied has been directed back at those who destroyed Earth in the first place, arming him with the single minded goal of destroying them by any means necessary.

His home life was cold and loveless, his time in the hospital was atrocious and everything seemed to line up far too well into forcing Eito to hate humanity with all his heart with his disorder acting as the just desserts pushing him to think like that. All humans were ugly, vile and reeking, with their hearts as rotten as their appearances. There was no such thing as genuine kindness or true love.

That was, until....

"Despite everything I've done to you, you've spared my life. Twice. You even chose to let me back on the team regardless of me having any reason to be trusted. I'd been questioning my worldview since you spared me the second time, but you've more than solidified it in recent days."

Eito sends Takumi an easy smile.

"You are the first person I've ever known to be genuinely kind to me. No matter how many times I stabbed you in the back or betrayed your trust, you never gave up on me. You saw something in me worth loving, when I myself could not find it. That isn't selfishness, Takumi. Trusting me again after everything I've done is the most altruistic thing I've ever seen. You risked the lives of everyone here and aboard the satellite to trust me again, and that kind of evidence to you being genuine to me is impossible to ignore."

He comes closer, taking in Takumi's sent, forcing himself to take it in. He needs to commit it to memory, the one person whose cared for him from the bottom of his heart.

"..."

*Sirei wanted to ask Eito if that was some twisted joke but that look was more than enough to tell him that the young male was serious. Honestly the way that man was looking at him if he could still even be called a man and not a monster terrified him. At least he had been honest as to why he did it, the officer didn't expect that.

Then again the only reason an answer was even given was because he was going to die here, away from those he cared about. Still if he was going to die there was one way to ensure a stalemate, destroy the rocket that was to take the students back to the satellite.

If it was damaged enough then at least it would buy time for another plan to be formulated. As his brain tried to come up with that plan he was already running. It might have seemed strange for a grown man to run away from a teenager it had to be done, there was no stopping him should Eito leave this planet.*

"Thank you for being honest but I'm not going down without doing a single thing. Consider this your last lesson from your commanding officer."

"Do you really think you can run?" Eito cackles. "All of you hideous human beings are the same. Everything you put into power and control for the sake of your selfish ideals, and then you turn tail like the vile and spineless cowards you really are!"

The power he obtained was overwhelming. The cryptoglobin he'd stolen from the other students and the weapon in the defense room was incredible. Eito feels like he's walking on air, and he may as well be with the way he's practically floating.

*This wasn't supposed to happen, the special defense unit wasn't supposed to fall to one of its own and yet that's what had happened before Sirei's eyes. The bodies of the members were lying there and the culprit? Eito Aotsuki, the sole remnant of the SDU...the traitor.

The male couldn't believe he was hearing, this was what that snake wanted? As much as the officer wanted to there was no conceivable way he could fight back against someone who could conjure the undying flames.

Trying to figure out his motive was priority number one, he could simply be power hungry or a more sinister theory was that it had something to do with humanity. If it was then as a human himself it was his duty to stop him from reaching the rest of them.*

"You want to know why? Fine, I'll tell you." Eito flashes Sirei a snide grin, watching the pile of rotten eggs before him with it's yolky leaking eyes dribbling on the floor among the sea of corpses around him.

Honestly, the Special Defense Unit has never looked better! A vast improvement to the hideous visages Eito had to put up with day in and day out until this moment. And now? Only one pitiful little human remained.

"I didn't do it to side with the invaders, if that's what you're wondering." He still doesn't really know what they're about. But, after taking the cryptoglobin of the prisoner, Eito could hazard a few very good guesses based on what he knows of their language, now.

"The reason I destroyed the Special Defense Unit and sabotaged the mission.... genuinely, from the bottom of my heart...."

*Takumi didn't think of it or rather he didn't want to think about it but Eito was right. The blade was azure and not purple so the power he relied so much on was his and not Shion's. Though it was more of an amalgamation so that was inaccurate, it was more like both of their powers entwined with his own at least that's how he justified it.*

"Of course. It's exactly as I thought. You know, since I have a brain that I actually use. It's glaringly obvious if you think on it for a moment, Ugly Takumi." Eito scoffs.

All the power Takumi stole from Eito's other self.... it makes his blood boil. That power rightfully belongs to him, and yet it's wasted on this ugly and hideous little ogre. It irritates Eito to no end, yet also fascinates him. How in the world did Takumi of all people manage to best him and take that power?

Takumi is dead.

He's gone.

Just when the group had begun to somehow, in some way, understand each other and how they worked in different techniques and strategy, the one singular person that stepped up to know all of them-- was no more. In fact, it could be said that the shattering new reveal of this twisted line of fate had left many defeated. Their hearts wretched, the will wavering in a dangerous degree of grief.

Her jaw clenched. Hiruko couldn't believe it herself at first. Scarlet eyes staring into Eito's as she let the silence blanket them in a rather uncomfortable layer of silence.

She couldn't let herself be shot with such a loss like this. As (now) leader, she had to take full responsibility for this and somehow snap everyone back into overdrive for the next wave. As cold-hearted as that sounded... she needed a pivot- and that pivot was Eito.

With a hard clench of her fist, Hiruko crosses her arms. Closing herself off from everyone else. From Eito. Standing tall. Unyielding.

"...This wouldn't have happened if you two didn't constantly flake off. Tell me, Aotsuki, you were the last one to see him. How did you not realize he was missing?"

Arguing won't bring Takumi back, but it would provide Hiruko a point to make sense of this. What had happened to Takumi Sumino...?

"This wouldn't have happened if WE didn't flake out?" Eito snaps at her, intent on gathering a rallying cry of the other students here.

Sure, Hiruko being alive and Takumi being the one he disposed of wasn't part of his original plan, but Takumi was getting TOO close. Asking too many questions. It sickened Eito, and like he did when those who try to be friends get too close, Eito killed him.

With his intended target still alive, she'd be the perfect scapegoat for Takumi's death, to get everyone's eyes off Eito and onto Hiruko for her negligence despite everything she claimed.

"What have YOU done since you put yourself in charge!?" Eito accuses. "Given us a bunch of nonsense orders, threatened everyone here who doesn't fight with the fact that they'll be thrown to the wolves, and you made those that do fight go around and do the dirty work for you? Is it any wonder we couldn't be bothered?"

"I was the last one with Takumi, that's true. But before we parted ways he was telling me about how tired he was. That he didn't want to put up with following the orders of some tyrant knowing it was going to get people killed when it inevitably got five people kicked out and lead to their deaths."

A lie, of course, but he weaves the tale with such passion that those around him couldn't help but have their hearts bleed for this false narrative regarding Takumi's death.
