Dr. K uploaded an insightful analysis of Eren’s pathology in a recent video, in which he points out his symptoms of sociopathy. According to him, Eren’s type of is trauma Moral Injury. A newly classified type of PTSD under the DSM-5. Commonly found in victims of war. Adding that it causes depersonalization (a PTSD coping mechanism) which allows him detach to enact violence, consequently The Rumbling.

He also hinted at Grisha’s possible sociopathy because he injected his son, but he hasn’t finished the series so I think once he sees Eren’s involvement in the whole event he will change his opinion (he’s still a terrible father imo). As I’m watching the video & reflecting on the manga, to me the overarching pattern I’m noticing is justification. Which is found in almost every character’s decision making. I remember someone once told me to be wary of a person who holds power & exercises it but believes they don’t. Somewhere in the video Dr. K mentions cognitive empathy. Basically it’s when someone can reason that certain behaviors are harmful to others but still decides to do them.

But is Eren really that apathetic?

Prior to the attack on Wall Maria you could argue he showcases signs of antisocial behavior. The lack of friendships in his age group, a lack of hesitancy to murder two men in defense of Mikasa, and his general disdain towards mundane life within the walls. And sure, he reasoned to himself to proceed with the rumbling. Freedom, choice and autonomy is his whole philosophy right? Eren says it himself “I’ve always been this way. Ever since I was born.” So I don’t think this hints at sociopathy, rather he always valued authenticity & has a high sense of morality.

I just can’t help but wonder if Eren says that due to a traumatized self-perception. As if he resigned himself to the inevitable. The end. Had the circumstances been different would he really think that way? What I observed is that the perception of freedom is absolutely skewed. It’s an interesting take on Dr. K’s part. It’s shame we mostly see the story take place within the context of violent events. I think the quiet parts of the series reveal a more nuanced view on his psyche.

german, i feel like this is something the entire aot fandom can unanimously agree on, it would be on grisha's side too, because i believe that zeke is german too. plus 'jaeger' means hunter in german. (always thought it was jaegar, but no it's an e)

AND, i do think that there is a little persian heritage in there too. and hear me out, maybe JUST MAYBE, a little indian.

ARMIN ARLERT

this is a pure white boy, he is fully white cannot tell me otherwise, white english, and i bet (in modern au) he would be oxonian (oxford english). maybe a little french? on his dads side he just looks like he would own a french bakery it sounds weird but it makes sense in my head. (his dad just looks like a baguette) OR OR OR maybe a little polish?? i do see armin having a little bit of slavic heritage.

MIKASA ACKERMAN

this one's not a headcannon because there is evidence to suggests its a fact, but japanese. she is named after a japanese war ship, or mount mikasa in japan. plus the azumabito clan, is also japanese. so i think mikasa's japanese, from hizuru.

also, if we take a look at mikasa's dad, i do think there are some other mixes in there, definitely european, i reckon mikasa has mixes of mainly japanese, and italian heritage.

JEAN KIRSTEIN

bffr. this one is also obvious, he is clearly french. don't even need to explain why it's also just one of those that's agreed amongst the fandom, (thanks sarajamss) but he could also be (hear me out) a little greek? does that make sense? idk it just works but he is defo main french.

SASHA BRAUS

this one was difficult. there's not a lot to base things off obviously, so the main thing i can base things off is her name. 'braus' is a german name, but 'sasha' and 'artur' (sasha's father) both have russian origin. there is seriously not a lot i can base this off so i would be really interested in knowing some other headcannons. but for me i just assume her to be german.

CONNIE SPRINGER

constance. this man is hispanic. yes there's no fact to base this off, but look at the fandom (asot) he is strongly believed to be dominican or mexican. but again, there is no evidence to back this, so connie is assumed to be german/english. but let a girl dream, constance is dominican <3

ERWIN SMITH

english. this man is english. BUT with some greek. i saw a greek god erwin fan art once and it lives in my head rent free. he is greek/english.

LEVI ACKERMAN

this one is also tricky, because there's not a lot i can base this off. i love the idea of french levi, it's so perfect to me and i think it's the sweetest thing ever, ESPECIALLY french speaking levi that's so hot. you know the sarajamss skit where levi's being reprimanded by erwin for poor behaviour at a fundraising event, they're arguing back and forth, then levi turns around and says "ta gueule". i just think it's so in his character and just makes such good sense. love french levi.

There’s a lot of good character moments in here: Jean being recognised by Eren on how much he’s changed since Trost, Historia breaking down over Ymir leaving, and of course, Eren worrying over Mikasa’s broken ribs (the eremika vibe is strong with this one)
