I'm in two minds about this. even though I personally don't enjoy any (canon) iteration of Eren, I understand getting attached to a main character. in my biased opinion, he was portrayed as unlikeable, but I guess some people enjoy All That.

the THING is, we are following his closest circle. his best friends since childhood and more recent (but still close!) friends. they will still see him in somewhat of a positive light just because they're biased. and they LOVE him. I think it's actually a very interesting aspect of the narrative to show that something as monstrous as Eren is still loved. Mikasa knowing what he has become and still loving him mirrors Ymir loving the monster who enslaved her, and I'm a slut for that.

besides, in my beautiful and perfect world, I think committing genocide is pretty much the worst thing anyone can do. at this point it shouldn't matter who he once was or how you felt about him before this. he is committing super mega genocide live on screen. Hello.

I definitely also understand Isayama's perspective here, because while his message and meaning is very clear to people who are media literate, it obviously didn't arrive in everyone's prefrontal cortex.
