okay so on top of scarjo already being awful by being a woody allen apologist and loving to take white washed roles, she’s gonna play a trans man in an upcoming film despite being a cisgender woman. this is very transphobic and the role should go to a trans man, but to add insult to injury when asked about it this was the response given:
basically “if they can be transphobic so can i” which is already such a disgusting attitude, but also shows why it is so crucial for all celebs to stop acting like they can just take roles from underrepresented communities and perpetuate toxic things. it teaches other ignorant celebs that what they’re doing is okay. if you like scarjo, first of all you should’ve stopped liking her a long time ago because this is just a new disgusting thing out of many disgusting things she’s done, second of all you’re trash.
scarjo does not care about lgbt+ people or poc, she doesn’t care about the opportunities and representation she takes from them. she doesn’t care about whatever toxicity her taking these roles perpetuates, because it doesn’t harm her. she doesn’t have to take these roles, she’s allowed to say no, and it isn’t as if she’s a celeb who desperately needs the work (but that still wouldn’t make it okay). scarjo just wants to take and take, and she’s fine hurting people to get what she wants and doesn’t even need, she is awful and if you still like her you are too.
@osterfields
Oh no, I agree! Apologies if my addition felt like an “oh at least we’re getting a trans character in a movie so yall be grateful”
I am just as against this as I was about her playing the lead in Ghost in the Shell adaptation, I was just trying to explain that there is a bigger problem at hand where movies about important topics or even just movies in general, don’t get to be made without this sort of heartbreaking cast choices that take away from the final product.
I think both things really need to be addressed. She should have more sense than to accept this kind of role but also Hollywood need to take a hint and understand people will go to see important and well-made films not just to see their favourite stars.
