i completely understand the sentiment that morty “did nothing wrong” in field of dreams because he’s just a kid who wants to go home and mit!rick is a fully grown man (the general audience Does put too much blame on morty’s shoulders for this ep but im speaking to the tumblr audience here) but i think being so insistent upon that fact does a disservice to the idea presented in the episode that morty believes he Has to do something morally wrong in order to get home. it’s the only way he thinks he can, done the only way he knows how.

part of morty being an abuse victim IS that he has unhealthy methods of maneuvering through the world and sometimes those self-preservation methods end up hurting other people. and he knows that they hurt other people but he’s adept enough at Surviving that he can temporarily push those feelings aside, even if they still gnaw at him. none of this makes morty any less of a victim, the abuse any less real, or the adults in his life any less accountable. the episode itself is extremely sympathetic to morty, and part of that sympathy is allowing him to have this agency and nuance.

Ack! Sorry! I completely forgot to respond to this! I saw it while I was getting ready for work this morning!! I love the slight style update! Now we finally get to see what is under his baggages!! (Unless I missed a post about that already lol)

Now that this season has ended I can safely say... It wasn't my "cup 'o tea" kind of season... 😅

Sure I didn't mind a majority of the episodes (I probably should've added a neutral option to my polls). Though the only episode I truly liked was "Mortgully: The Last Rickforest"...

Other than that, the final episode I feel wasn't enough to justify this "backwards" motion the writing has been going this season. Like we took two steps back and then just took another step back. I was hoping that this season was coming toward a point with all this reversion back to these season 3 type vibes. But it's just the reality they've set up for these characters I guess...

Regardless I still enjoy the entertainment. And I guess I really don't care where the show goes or what happens to it in the long run. I just like hanging out in this fandom (the better parts at least) and seeing all the creative people and their ideas that have come from watching this dumb little show ha hah. You guys are the reason I stay in this fandom. Stay safe, have fun, enjoy what you like unapologetically, and keep being creative!
