I found a little duck sternum in the woods today
warning: gruesome!!!
when thereās a dismembered rab/bit corpse in your driveway
Iām gonna salt preserve two of the legs (the other two pretty much fell apart in my hands during cleaning) and Iām gonna rot down the head to get the skull. poor little guy
found a dead woodpecker
sorry itās been a while, my autism only lets me like one thing at a time, and right now my brain only has room for danganronpa. I havenāt touched my bones all month which is extremely frustrating. Iāll have to force myself to clean the bones that need it. but I know yāall are here for vulture culture and not me, so hopefully Iāll have more things to post soon :)

some beach finds from today! a dead flounder(?) and the fin and tail of a shark! my brother, my mom, and I all tried to yank the vertebrae out from the tail, but the cartilage was too strong :( I really wish I coulda had shark bones
edit: apparently sharks donāt have bones lmao I had no idea
found a cool crab claw on the beach
my third opossum skeleton lol. I found it half buried in the woods, not sure what else to say. itās not the deer skull I keep hoping for but I love opossums so Iām very happy hehe. named them Calabash after the town I found them in
my bone haul from a hiking trail today! the largest bone is just over a foot long and itās the width of my arm. I highly suspect that itās the tibia of a bear, which is really really cool (two of the smaller bones are broken off pieces of the bear bone). the second largest bone appears to be the tibia of a deer. the hourglass-shaped bone is a snapping turtle humerus. the long one at the bottom is a pork rib, which isnāt super interesting but bones are bones. the last one is a piece of a deer vertebrae I think
found a dead mole, super cool. Iād take it but Iām 11 hours from home and I donāt particularly like the idea of keeping a rotting animal with me for two whole weeks and then in the long car ride back lol. kinda sucks, a mole skeleton would be super cool

lots of bones!
most bones on the left are part of a squirrel skeleton that I donāt think Iāve posted about yet? I found it in my backyard under a huge bush lol their name is Alfredo
the bones on the right are from my roadkill opossum Scuffle who my last post was about
I have to take a break from degreasing them since Iāll be on vacation for two weeks, but Iām really excited to go bone hunting there! I hope to find some neat new animal bones that I wouldnāt see where I live
I dug up my roadkill oppossum that I found back in September! it was very. very unpleasant to wipe all the fat and dirt and fur off, and theyāre very stinky, but it is so worth it! surprisingly, the bones are much smaller than I expected, especially since I already have some opossum bones that are like twice the size of these ones. also the skull was broken, but itās not nearly as bad as my raccoon, so itās fixable. Iām guessing thatās due to head trauma from the car that killed it. Iām gonna let them degrease for quite a while, then Iāll assemble it just like I am with my raccoon! the grave was dug up by scavengers shortly after burying the opossum, so I wasnāt expecting to have a near complete skeleton, but I do! I already named her Scuffle :) (I know sheās a female due to the lack of a baculum)
Possum skulls also usually fall apart around the sutures anyhow because of the way they grow, but if you need any reference pictures to help you re-assemble that skull let me know!! I have several perfect possum skulls and I can send photos at any angle you need! š
Opossums also do not have a baculum! However, females have two little bones where their pouches are! So if you find those two little bones then you definitely have a female but if not, male! =D
oh thanks for letting me know! Iām not super smart about this kinda stuff so I really appreciate it :)

Im not sure if you answer asks but I had a question. I pulled a deer jaw out of a river the other day, and it's stained brown. I've got it soaking in hydrogen peroxide, but I'm wondering if that will work, and if there's something else I should try. Thanks!
yeah hydrogen peroxide is perfect for whitening bones! it should take from a few days to a week or two to whiten up, depending on 1) how brown it is and 2) personal preference to how white you want it. if the jaw starts to get yellow and greasy in a few months, let them soak in clear dish soap and warm water for as long as it takes (change the solution every so often when it gets pretty cloudy). normally itās better to do that before whitening, but it really isnāt a problem :)
my juvenile raccoon bones are cleaned and whitened (well, as white as theyāre gonna get. they were buried in dirt for well over a year) and Iām getting ready to articulate! I know the bones arenāt exactly right, and Iām missing several pieces but. itās my first time doing something like this and Iām excited anyway. I plan on using Elmerās glue, I donāt wanna use super glue because Iām sure Iāll make at least one mistake. if anyone has glue recommendations, Iād love to hear them!
the skullās in the cup by the way. it was shattered when I found it and Iām gonna try my best to repair it
I just realized I switched around the radius+ulna and the humerus on the right side lol oops

today was my 18th birthday and I got a bat skeleton and a turtle skull! I named the bat Momo after the lemur from ATLA and I named the turtle Tuck because my friend wouldnāt stop singing the Wonder Pets theme song
salt preserved baby rabbit arm!
I found this in my driveway along with the rabbitās heart (I didnāt keep it) so I decided to try salt curing for the first time. six weeks later I think it worked really well! I can feel all the little paw bones and the claws under the skin, and the fur is super soft
